    You didn't read the article. and it does not match the headline/slashdot comments

    The # 5,000 does not even appear in it, and it says they sold MORE copies, not less.
    they concluded that file sharing actually increases CD sales for hot albums that sell more than 600,000 copies. For every 150 downloads of a song from those albums, sales increase by a copy, the researchers found.

    I suppose you could make something of it, why is it that porn site eula's (which NO one concerns themselves with) all contain language to the effect that, you must be in a region/country/community where this is legal..

    Much like the RIAA finally realized they must go after the individual. Legitimate enforcement is to have to be made against the folks doing the gambling, not the gambling sites. that's where the law is being broken.

    If I am from a state that bans gambling, and go to vegas, I'm not breaking the law. if I go to montecarlo.com, where am I? in whose jurisdiction?

    all pentium iii's (and some II's had) were going to/did have serial #'s that programs could call on... public hue and outcry ended this.


    see for example, this link at intel for the faq or this link where intel started defending it or this link, last updated 4/28/2000 talking about the fact that psn's (pentium serial numbers) will not be in the next generation of pentiums that last link has many bits about why the PSN was a headache.

    when I have a large file to move to different computers in my home network, I always first create a tracker for local use, and then copy it to all my computers.. the best thing is the decreased load on the original PC!
    you should see my share ratios! it's just ever so much more efficient!

    it does not hit my processor that hard, while running at idle, I have 2% usage, this (after startup) floats between 5 & 8
    but even at very low to 1 kb/sec for a singled d/l, it seriously hampers all my internet enabled apps. from 2.0.6.0 to current.
    they slow down, pages take forever to load, and pingtimes shoot way up... new windows take a while to appear, and my email send/recieve even times out.

    is that it's running under java, and always brings my computer to it's knees...
    even at minimal up/down kb settings, all my web browsing, email checking is extremely reduced in speed, and I CANNOT play diablo with it runnning at all.
