Exactly! They're much too busy to bother actually checking out people's information. (well, come to think of it, I'd rather they not do that... Yet another reason to keep one's personal information private when possible) Instead, they just do the equilavency (sp?) of spamming, and then want you to use your time to correct their mistake.

As for the AC who claims I was flaming the government... First, if you're such a pansy that you won't post possibly-negative-karma with your username, then don't. Posting AC only shows your cowardice. Second, I said the RIAA is acting like a government organization. In reality, most mega corporations are run like a government entity. You have the big boss[es], and it runs down the line. The ones who do the least work get the most money, and vice versa. And inter-communication is nil.

I find it to be the usual government style of action: act first, apologize later. They send out threat form letters to anyone who might be violating their stupid-*** laws, and then when they find they're wrong, they throw out a whoops, and they're done. There is something very wrong with that picture.

Hi. Well, I've just finished (a couple days ago) re-ripping my CD collection, yet again. So far I've gone from Blade 256, Blade 192, a brief stint in Ogg, to my current LAME VBR 5. Winamp claims an average bitrate around 150-160 KBPS. WMP 8 claims 350 KBPS. Of course, it also claims all my songs are a minute long. Go figure. Anyway, the only reason I use MP3 is because of the ease of use on hardware players, of which I hope to get one soon. I suppose I might re-rip everything as OGG, listen to OGG on the computer, and MP3 on a hardware. Or void my warranty and get a 3rd party firmware upgrade:-)

I'm listening to Kevin Max's CD, Stereotype Be right now as LAME Q5. I'm using someone else's computer, with decent speakers. (Some Harmonn/Kardon's) I don't notice any quality loss. I did a blind test of different codecs before ripping. LAME was the best, IMO. Highs are good, lows are deep and resonant, mids are clear, and reverb is good. (some codecs don't handle reverb either, I've noticed) I never rip from compressed to compressed. CD directly. All my MP3's have an Encoded tag, "CD - LAME 1.30".

Well, that's my two bits, anyway. I think I may re-rip as OGG though, and keep MP3.

Why, oh why, must CNN and other idiot places that don't know #%@#% about computers anyway use computer terminology? GHz, DDR Memory (who at CNN even knows what DDR stands for?! Who knows what it actually means for your speed?) the list goes on. I especially like how they said GeForce 3. Excuse me, but anyone with a recent kick-butt gaming setup is going to have a GeForce 4 Ti 4600, or a Radeon 9700 Pro. Either or, peoples. IDIOTS! IDIOTS! IDIOTS! I agree with whoever it was that stated the obvious: it's the games that drives gamers. I discovered long ago it's a vicious circle. New games come out, (Doom III) we buy new computers. New computers come out, we buy them in hopes that they will run future games. Newer games come out, our computers don't run them. It's a conspiracy, I tell you. (-:Stephonovich:-)

If you're so pissed about WMP killing your music, (however temporarily) don't use WMP! There are plenty of alternatives out there. I use WinAmp for my music, and while I do use WMP to play movie clips, I do have other options. I have Creative PlayCenter, (I hate it, though) and DivX's The Playa available to me anytime I want. I'm sure there are hundreds more. Also, if I may ask, why are you ripping your songs as .wma? I don't care how small they get them, .mp3 is the industry standard. Others will come and go, but .mp3 will be here forever. (I'm not dissing Ogg. I myself like Ogg. It's simply that there's not enough commercial products available to play .ogg yet) Or hey, there's always CD players... (-:Stephonovich:-)
