To make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers

My issue is that Congress is not just 'carrying into execution' this particular foregoing power. They are extending it well beyond its original scope. Being a strict constructionist, when I read 'securing for limited times to authors and inventors' I interpret it as meaning that ONLY authors and inventors may enjoy the fruits of a copywright, not an estate, foundation, etc. that claims to be representing the author or inventor. There may be very good reasons for extending the life of a copywright beyond that of the original author, but if this is so, we need to amend the Constitution, not ignore it.

    According to Law.com:

Olson gained ground when he invoked another clause of the Constitution, the "necessary and proper" clause, as a justification for the legislation as a matter of equity.

I am appalled that this guy invoked the necessary and proper clause on an issue that the Constitution already addresses. That is NOT what the clause was intended to do. I don't know why we even bother paying lip service to the Constitution anymore.

  15. Re:Certification on More on MIT OpenCourseWare · · Score: 2

Not that my life is necessarily relevant to anyone else's, but.. I started college as a computer science major. I hated class and never went. I ended up switching to poli sci / philosophy. But now I work in web development. I think that there are advantages to the classroom setting when learning humanities subjects, where discussion and interaction are an important part of the learning experience. Learning a skill such as web development, on the other hand, can be done on one's own, by reading the right materials, much more so say learning and understanding Plato's Republic. But that's just my opinion. What do you guys think?
