Think about the word destroy.
If you mean change drastically, then too bad sinbad, it's already happened a thousand times on this planet.
If you realy want to save the EARTH then kill all life. The earth is dirt. Life is life. Who cares what happens to dirt? Not me... it's something to use. If I can use it that's all I care about.
I say mine the moon and take no prisoners. It'll probably be a while before we grow trees in space so you'll have to stay here if you want to hug them.
That's so horrible!! What will all the sweatshop workers do when their jobs are replaced? they will surely go back to the streets and starve! or maybe that will make goods so cheap that they will be able to starve in their new nikes?
The fact that humans can get around for more than 20 minutes without "re-charging" demonstrates that there is no set of physical laws that makes this impossible.
Are they going to give the robots the GPS location of all the stop signs and traffic circles?
Page 6 of the PID under section 2.3: objectives says:

Stay on the road and in a legal and appropriate travel lane while en route, including
around sharp turns, through intersections, and while passing. The route network definition file will specify the GPS coordinates of the stop signs.
I sure am glad I ditched windows... I havn't cared about viruses, if I want software I emerge it, I don't have to beg microsoft to let me install just one more time. ssh with x forwarding means I don't have to go to the school computer lab to use software there. I love that I get a free compiler with my install. I never loose my files, and I love the excuse "No, sorry I can't fix you're computer for you. I don't know why MS word lost your file".
That's what would happen to me anytime i'd let my friends use "my internet". I'd have to reinstall the OS just to feel safe again. Finally I set up a machine with a removable HD bay and now when they want to use the computer I say "hold on..." shutdown the machine, remove the HD, and pop in a linux live CD for them to use. PClinux os seems to minimise the complaints of "why cant i play this video?" and "How come this or that doesn't work?"
Programmers are end users as well. I see a trend of allowing more and more advaced programming concepts to creep into content creation programs to allow finer control of the end result.
I talked with meng wong at ISPcon few weeks before he publicly came out with SPF. I was proposing a system I call Choicelist (PDF)which is basically a centrally controlled, default deny, public whitelist management system.
At that same time I proposed a way to stop phishers to a man from the FTC,Brian Huseman.
This is how it goes:
1. When a buissiness gets a buisiness licence they also recieve a cryptographicaly signed certificate to be used in online commerce.
That's it!
Certificate authoritys like verisign and thawte are crap. That role should be filled by a government agency for the public good.
There is no organization that has the authority to permit distribution of all copyrighted works without destroying the idea of copyright. do you know why they don't sing the happy birthday song in restauraunts? because someone owns the copyright, and demands a royalty.
There is no room in the law for qualitative interpretation in art, and if i release a song, and demand a certain amount of payment, then i am entitled to that amount of payment if someone is going to esentialy create a copy and sell the copy of my work. I have a right to be paid what I think is reasonable for my own work.
If this goes big, you can expect to see a work by me, available and very popular on all p2p networks. Oh, and the cd will be available to buy for $1000 so that's what I'd demand as my royalty for every download under this plan. It'll be a breakout song called "DownloadThisToMakeMeRich.com".
answer I got from my insurance salesman: If you are legaly dead, and there is a death certificate, they pay the money, and the contract is fullfilled at that point. If you are brought back to life at some point in the future, it doesn't matter to them. (you paid untill you died, and they paid when you died)
Look at the state of the art in cryonics, then look at the alternatives... cremation, burial, or mumification. which has the best chance to save the information that makes you you? actualy... im wondering about being encased in amber now...
After I signed up with alcor I felt a kind of future-historical perspective shape the way I look at issues and events in our time. sometimes I'll think about a person from the future obsessed with the past, and think "They would realy like to be where I am right now", and it makes me feel good to be here in our primitive times, still arguing about this or that when it probably doesn't matter that much to the far future how things go, just that they do.
by the way.. I've found price to be the biggest limiting factor among people I know as to why they havn't signed up. most people I've talked to about cryonics can see that any chance to be revived is better than none.
I've wondered that myself. I have a bunch of drives that for one reason or another I'm not using, but they still have important stuff on them. do I need to spin them up once in a while, or should I just hope that years down the line they still work?
Anonymity + free speech means that the public will never know what happened to the person who said that controversial thing. the government will find out, and when they drag you to an anonymous prison as a terror suspect nobody will know why you are there. Anonymity allows the government to get away with breaking free speech.

In the beginning, all the matter/energy in the universe was lumped together in a singularity. At that time we know the speed was exactly zero because there was only one reference frame to measure from. We also know the location exactly because everything was in the same spot. With both known to infinite precision, the universe explodes in a cloud of infinite uncertainty.

Since intelligent robots might survive a nuclear war better than cockroaches, it'll be no contest at all...
yes but in that 10 minutes they will have scored 700 goals...

I wrote a song a few years ago that relates to this:
It was Two thousand-twelve when I realised I wasn't in the future,
It was Twenty-sixteen when I realised that I was there.
I think you are 4 years off.

It's called metal storm, and I too immediately thought of that type of gun when I read about this system.

infinite temperature occurs in some special situations because of the way temperature is defined.
google infinite temperature or look here or here

When I was little I liked to break little rocks into dust with a hammer. The resulting dust often smelled like spent gunpowder.

that's the funniest thing I've read in a while... hope that doesn't happen to me :)

this one's mine cause I found it!
my theory:
In the beginning, all the matter/energy in the universe was lumped together in a singularity. Exactly. That's why the Grey aliens are grey... full coverage EM reflective body suits. Everybody knows that.
