No, they just arrest the guy. The difference here and the issue GP raised is proof on the server/bank side. To not check weblogs is like having tapes from the security cams without examining them.
You are right that the last 10.2.* update was kind of a fiasco. Even if consipiarion theories allways are fun, I would believe the reason for this being that basically all beta-testers were using the new version. Hopefully this is not the case now...
Yep, and we all know that the computer market is about the same size today as it was 1992... The total market have increased and diversified tremendously during this time which makes it impossible to compare market shares over time. Apple, being a niche computer compared to Dell, is right increasing their sales compared to market generalists as Dell. It's like whole food beating wallmart supermarket- a very impressing thing.
A Mac is not an operating system, it's a hardware platform. Os X is the operating system. You can run Linux on a Mac without even have another OS in the vicinity. Do you need to emulate Linux on a x86 PC just because it comes with Windows preinstalled?
Most hack are actually souping it up, with some exception of course... There are even "hack managers" to create an extended platform and decrease the risk of incompabilities. One example is APE http://www.unsanity.com/haxies/ape
It is also amazing how much stuff that is hidden in os X, some hacks only change the config files to turn on stuff already there...
Actually, most of these hacks only use the framework provided by Apple in a somewhat different manner. The windows mangager application was souped up in a couple of hours basically using functionality allready provided by the system. The main problem is when hacks are using undocumented functionality i nthe system. These tend to break when the system is upgraded but functions well in the version the were written for.
The main reason for all these hacks in in my opinion that Apple is quite restricitve in new functionality of the UI. It is allways simplicity before choice. Most users stay in tis environment and it makes it very easy for newcommers. People who want more functionality can choose to install the particular functionality they want. If one become very popluar, it tend to be included in the next OS revision.
Interesting enough it seems like every single person on slashdot is running such environments. How many Extremely Important Mission Critical Database Systems are there out there? I am working with data-management at a department in a Large university and we don't have many. Perhaps the economy student system. The rest is run on different DBs without any problems. Heck, our Course database ran on Access until recently. Not well though.
Where real-world database applications is used around me, it is way more important to have good support than the extreme data integrity PG/Oracle/MSsql etc have. If someone here needs to set up a database for the museum collections, 3d-model output, Student statistics, web CMS, lab-results, instrument output etc. etc. etc. they often need a company to talk to. Mysql i perfect in that you get a system which handles these tasks good enough for free, but with an option to by support from the company. For a vast majority of systems out there and every single one I been in contact with, backup solutions are good enough for keeping the data integrity intact.
Well, the e-PC-3 with similar configuration as the Mac mini (Combodrive and 40GB HD, windows home edition and Microsoft works) is about $1400. Quite pricey for a PC-card... Please compare the specs AND the price for the Apple products. Yes there are smaller, cheaper notebooks or ones with better prestanda. Are there any ones smaller, cheaper and with better prestanda? How well would the iBook sell if it wass $100 more expensive but with a PC-card? How many people percent-vise are using those slots? No, not "I do for my GPS", but percent vise?
Register an E-mail address with the credit card company. When an on-line purchase is made, a verifiaction mail is sent to you. Click on the link in the mail and the purchase goes through, othervise call customer relations...
No, you shouldn't throw away the music, but read the restrictions before you bought it. The iPod existed prior to iTMS so the guy should know about all restrictions before he made his first purchase.
Probably a dumb question, but are you actuall running Quartz Extreme? I thought that only the newest graphics cards had it, but I don't know if Radeon 8500 is one of those. Old cards, or cards with to little RAM, are supposed to downgrade to "normal quartz". When comparing a Cube with a 12" AlBook, the difference is quite remarcable...
Finland had *very* lucrative trade agreements with USSR during the entire cold war era. They were officially neutral, but with a non-aggression agreement with the USSR. How much they actually benefited from these deal are disputed but some believe that cheap oil etc from USSR was one of the founding stones for Finland's industrial development
I also believe that the USSR helped Finland building roads etc which later could be used in an attack on Sweden, but I'm not sure.
Well, it's clear that history and politics easily creates debates depending on your context and background. If you want to read some descripitions about what happened in Nicaraguar you can try these links:

http://www.iexplore.com/dmap/Nicaragua/History The truth is that the actual politics by the Sandinistas was less soicialistic the in Sweden. Their landreforms was very needed considering the social inequalities in the country. Nationalizing of the industry is something both France, Germany, Sweden, Norway etc etc have done, often to save jobs. Up until the 80's Import substitution politics was alse the most common economical paradigm in Latin America. Spending money on education and healthcare shouldn't be too marxisic i hope...
The most interesting fact with the Sandinistas was that they actually won the polpular vote 1984 with 67% of the voters. International observers considered the election to be fair and reperesenting the will of the people. Reagan, however, didn't accept it because the Sandinistas still were in power. He didn't care about democaracy, only to get rid of the socialists...

Other types of netural methods for transfering data between computers are netCDF, HDF and GRIB. These fileformats are often used in for GEO-data and seem to have been around since the early 1990's. A faq describing them from 1993: http://groups.google.com/group/sci.data.formats/b
Are you saying that the record companies are paying Apple for the bandwith?

Well TeX is at 3.141592. Donald Knuth is converging the version number to PI. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TeX/

There is a thid-party app to change key-mappings via a GUI...
uControl. http://gnufoo.org/ucontrol/ucontrol.html/
Which of course the iPod does...
You can also try the aqua version...

You mean in contrast to

os X?
Right now it seems like the most innovative apps are developed in Cocoa.
You can also start to write a word and press F5 for suggestions. Very practical...
To late in the evening. Please bare with all spelling errors. Shit, I even used preview...
I meant the main student grade handling and economy systems at the university in paragraph one.
Mysql is perfect
An option to buy support in the second

Nope, for $1400 you get a 1.8GHZ P4. The 2.8GHZ would be $170 more.

MOD UP, it's funny!
