As long as someone finds value in the item and is will to either pay for it or labor for it then it has an intrinsic value so it is a real entity. Be it one you can not yet physically hold.
LOL, funny I just tossed 50 or 60 of those machines a couple of years ago. I was keeping them until I figured out that realistically they were end of life and better off being recycled. I could by a new low powered system that would use less wattage then the of that old system. All my 30pin SIMM's were turned into key chains. they were worth 99cents that way... LOL... Sure glad the day of $100 x 1MB for ram is gone.
Bush dug a giant hole. Not surprised Obama is still digging out of it. Too bad McCain didn't win so at least the responsibly would have landed on the right political party.
So the terrorists have won it seems. I'm am effectivly tormented by my government and all The Luddites whom think the sky is falling.
Gets self sufficient! Educate your self. Help a neighbor, help a stranger stop the terror! Stop the complaining and do something!
>> Vote Palin 2012
Sure I enjoy the farcically parody of mature decision making governments!
How about taking your head out of your backside long enough to realize that it's people like her and the tea party that make the USA look so damn bad. You just about flushed the entire country due to the Palin Tea Party radical's.
Well it did manage to provide an upgrade path for the many millions of developers of small business / custom application development. (It kept the money train moving and lots of people employed during a time period when there wasn't much reason to continue development.)
PHB: Hey look at the cool elite new things I can do without having to invest large amounts of time or money and the customer will be glad that were using leading edge software.
M$ Has always coddled the developer's as it locks end uses into an upgrade path. Reminds me when VB 4 or 5 came out and all of sudden.... Vendors were like Opps sorry your going to need to upgrade to IE 4 if you want to install the help files...
Computers are tools. The best tools for the job should always be used. If some one can prove the risk:reward ratio is in my favour I'm going to gamble on the quick and dirty solution as well. People do this all the time, people risk their lives to save both time and money. It occurs in every industry; it's called cutting corners. I know of many government agency's in Canada that use Skype, Hotmail, Google Email etc for both business and personal transactions. Little do this people understand is that have the time that information is either routed through or stored in the USA where they should not expect any level of privacy. It's unfortunate but it is often the person in power who lack the basic understanding to make sure things are done properly it's really not there fault, and consider many of them are ultimately earning more financially for being the decision maker they really don't want to share too much if it diminishes either their perceived or true value. That said I have worked with a few great teams that had leaders that knew best to delegate the decisions to the experts they hired.
CRT Displays contain high amounts of Beryllium by weight. Beryllium is not good for you. Not sure about leaching into ground water but it is corrosive and reactive.
CRT Televisions are processed at very few places in North America (last time I researched it Noranda Mines was doing it in Quebec Canada. CRT Displays contain high amounts of Beryllium by weight. You must be careful with beryllium-containing dusts; inhalation while surely cause you severe illness. Beryllium is corrosive to tissue, and can cause a chronic life-threatening allergic disease called berylliosis in some people. As it is not synthesized in stars, beryllium is a relatively rare element in both the Earth and the universe. The element is not known to be necessary or useful for either plant or animal life.
Indium is a major component in the screens (were running out of it too! ) It's produced by letting nickel react with air and water and the sludge that results is the good stuff. Indium is chemically similar to gallium and thallium, both of which you do not want in your body. so MrQuacker your on the right track. There is a reason there is are very few North American E-Waste processors. The good stuff is is hard to get at without generating smelters penalties for the bad stuff.
It's not any different the MAFIAA just hasn't got around to squashing that bug yet. Actually the investment for a Thinkpad with 6TB of external storage space and an HDMI port was the best investment for my living room in a long time. It attaches to a 58 Samsung Plasma which has embedded media player software which I've used but it's not a fast as just piping the video/audio via hdmi to the screen. Takes a bit of work having to get up and press a button on the laptop once and awhile but then again I'm feeling more like a Cylon more and more each day (24/7/365 Connections) I really wonder where the entire industry is going. What Collage kid can afford $100/Mth for Cable/Sat TV (there not watching public broadcasting and HBO, TSN et al. do not come cheap) So whats a person to do but steal the content available online if they want to remain
Why is Lotus Notes worse then Exchange. Lotus Domino Server with all the bells and whistles is probably equally or more expensive than MS Exchange but it works and works well out of the box (as much as a Groupware platform can work out the box) for most people. Also Lotus Domino Server and Client is multi-platform and will work under linux. I've got experience in sysoping nodes in a 52 Site 8000 + User Lotus system with PKI and was quite happy with the directory features.
5 GB is hardly enough for me, I average 3.87GB TX and 8.43GB RX Daily. That said with crazy mandates such as this it will only spur further innovation. Like finding away to bridge a highspeed connection over the PSTN using our free long distance packaged with everyones home phone. Perhaps everyone should use there dial up connections and give them good old portmasters a job. We might even cause Bell to eat some costs; instead of causing us grief by pricing newer services out of general use e.g Netflicks, iTunes, Skype for that matter. I guess they figure they can get away with it since people happily pay those obscene prices for mobile internet.
Never ceases to amaze me how often articles come to press claiming * Linux is dead. Being desktop linux, HPC linux, Virtualized Linux, embedded linux or webserver linux. Linux is not dead however you visualize linux; is it a distribution a kernel, a building block, another component etc. It's and amazing tool and until the LKML goes offline Linux will exist and people will use it on there desktops etc. I for one think the desktop is dead not linux, I for one use X-Windows, VNC, ssh, and MS Terminal Services to accomplish both work and personal tasks all day long. Most of the time now I'm using some sorta QNX Flavour/Hybrid on my Blackberry to access my machines and my clients machines. At least I'm pretty sure the blackberry is using some sorta embedded Qnx realtime os.
That's the problem with the english, True linux is free but that's only for the license cost for the software, you still need to invest your time in learning a new OS. Which IMHO is well worth the investment what ever rate you value your time at.
Can't rememeber when I first put them up but I had them there I was using Maximus BBS and OS/2 Warp for the board. Wackos and Wierdos BBS I claim prior art.
Do you realize how easy it is to take down a Mail server with no message size limits.... You can fill up even the largest of Raid array's in minutes, 50Mb messages times number of users! People are worried about DDOS, Well can you imagine if someone with a spam mailing list attached 100MB files to each out going email. Oh boy! And the poor admin in he has made the mistake of having the mail spool on the same mount point as the/var/log most boxes will drop quickly 1)Mail can't write, 2)Box complains and trys to log it, then goes right nut's until a kernel panic because it can't write log's...
Well I would suggest before posting such a lame comment that you check up on what Corel is actually doing, Last I heard Corel was trying to make a complete system ie hardware+GNU/Linux+Corel office/graphics suites and sell the complete thing for $500 +/- $$ To me that's very reasonable.

Why does my jello taste like Grandma?
Depends.
They keep the adult diaper on during processing for that extra Grandma flavor. "Depend - Kimberly-Clark"
The bought Ingres a few years back, a very powerful RDBMS. I've used it for the last 10 years quite good and it's also Opensource now too. http://www.ingres.com/products/ingres-database.php

You my friend would be incorrect. New York, New York, USA. I believe just shut down there DC grid a few years ago. It had powered a lot of the skyscraper's elevators etc. http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/11/14/off-goes-the-power-current-started-by-thomas-edison/

You got that right!! Email should never be executed, it should should only be displayed it's mail not software!
