    The implication is that by not changing the default password, you are giving implicit access. Not sure how it would end up in court, but it would not be a cheap case.

    Finally, I can have the same functionality as the Amazon product but now all my conversations in the real world can go into the Google datamine too! Not having all of my personal data in one place was a real concern!

    I would say that in the current climate ANYONE who lives in the USA and who works in computer or network security, and doesn't work for the US government, should get out of the USA while they can.

    And go where? I have to say that the list of countries that will not just ship you back to the US does not include a lot of wonderful places.

    And I have a social science degree. Back when I started, a CompSci degree was not all that... The real world was far ahead of the Universities.

    Sure she hasn't done much on the git repo, but her cv which is hosted on a Tor site, seems to suggest she's been pretty involved with the project for a while.

    Exactly. Only one person can actually commit, so if several people collaborate on some code, only one gets the credit. I collaborated with a lot of developers for one open source project, but never made a single commit... But all the developers knew me, and if I e-mailed one a code snippit, it was likely to be used.

    Correct. So ask yourself: is Tor secure?

    A better question is "Is Tor more secure then what I am doing now?" or "Is there something more secure then Tor that I can use?" There is no perfect security, but there is better and worse security. (MS CHAP anyone?)

    Not only have Seagate chained themselves to the declining HDD market, apparently happy with their inevitable fate of oblivion, but they can't even get that right! Their HDDs are totally crap as well.

    And they continue to sell because they are "good enough" and cheap enough, and because they are easy to buy in quantity. This is why BackBlaze does not buy as many Toshiba or WD drives... Getting them in quantity is difficult.

    What the fuck is this company doing using consumer hard drives in a goddamn data center?

    Making lots money while still offering services cheaper then anyone else. Their B2 storage is even cheaper then Amazon S3. Yet, the service overall is very reliable, and the customers seem very happy.

    When will people stop picking stupid manufacturer sides when it comes to drive reliability?

    When people stop continuing to get tons of anecdotal evidence. I was refurbishing some old storage boxes, and testing all the drives. Found about 10 bad out of 50. All the bad ones were Seagate. (Farious sizes and models.) None of the WD were bad. This reinforces my belief that Seagate is likely to be crap. It works the same way for others.

    No, what she is saying is the FBI may believe she can which puts her in a very bad position. If she is successful she "undermine(s) the Tor system -- and expose(s) Tor users around the world to potential spying" and if she is not she is imprisoned for contempt of court. I can see why she left. I can also see why so many security professionals keep their passport current. Way to keep the USA in the forefront of security; scare them to Germany.

    It's no secret that Microsoft has long stopped caring about Skype for Linux.

    It costs money to support software on a niche OS.

    Of course it is the guys running on this OS that will write the competitor that people will move to when skype becomes unusable.
