    I've been running a local GIA of sorts for a while, and the ACLU says all we need to do is use a small disclaimer at the end of every page stating that the comments belong to the posters of said comment.

    I delete server logs on a daily basis, and almost all information is submitted anonymously.

    I understand the fear of prosecution, but is P2P really well suited for this?

    That string won't work. (At least under RH9).

    If you want to block all users but your list of allowed users, just use:

    AllowUsers user1@users_ip_address user2@users_ip_address ... # To allow only by IP address

    or AllowUsers user1 user2 ... # To allow from any IP

    That DenyUsers string blocks your list of allowd no matter where you put it.

    I am not under the impression that the Democrats are without blame, but I never heard that Dan Rostenkowski commited voter fraud.

    The 17 counts he went to jail on were for mail fraud and paying people to do nothing.

    Maybe there is a better example? Say in Chicago

    You seem to think I am advocating a system where the employees are forbiden from giving money to political organizations.

    That's not what I am talking about. I am advocating a system that refuses to do business with partisin companies. The owners and officers of said organization should be forbidden from making political contributions.

    You may not like it, but the truth is that is plain unethical for them to behave this way, closed source or otherwise.

    But seriously, all politicians are evil, and substantial campaign contributions (especially from companies or special interest groups) should be illegal. Dammit!


    Sure, say what you want, but I can't believe you really think the manufactures of our voting systems should fall within the same rules as normal companies.

    We have special restrictions for all sorts of vendors to the US Gov. For instance most military contractors need to certify that none of their employees are non-citizens.

    Saying that voting machine manufacturers should be as impartial as possible is hardly a radical idea.

    problem with that is it is likley that DIEBOLD also knows this and is willing to sell this info to different political parties and lobby groups.

    Yep. And guess what party that woud be?

    According to netcraft the percentage of sites running Apache is 63.72%.

    If you consider that the windows version of apache is rather insignificant, I would assume that the total linux web server installations are in line with this number.

    Therefore, one must conclude that the predominate cause of web site defacements is negligence, not the opperating system one chooses. After all, technically competent sites such as the one you are reading now almost never get hacked.

    1. You can say everyone gets tracked, but the only legal tracking, specifically the tracking you are referring to, is voluntary.

    2. I don't live in tower, I do live in the city center. That said, I used to live in a very rural area, and I can tell you that the cities do a piss poor job taking care of those who fall through the cracks.
    You read slashdot, so I assume you are aware of the recent depression in the tech industry. Plenty of the new homeless came from our ranks. I ask you, that being the case, how do you justify your hate?

    3. You can throw out statistical sampling if you want, but understand that most census numbers from statistical sources. Can you imagine how much it would cost to have everyone fill out the long form? It would also be much less accurate.

    When you are driving a car, you are taking upon yourself to participate in a privileged act, one with rules by which you must comply to retain the privilege of driving.

    There is no privileged act involved in walking down the street.

    In case you can't remember, here is the 4th:

    The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

    Yes we do need to track them.

    Fine, but now I want to track you.

    Why? Because you fit in some economic group I don't really like. I think all of you need armbands too.

    We're tired of getting all those fake, inflated numbers of how many there are. Knowing how many homeless are really out there is a vital statistic.

    Here's an idea -
    Go take a walk in the city tonight. It won't kill you. There are lots of homeless. All you need to know is that there are a bunch of people starving in your backyard.

    If you really care about the numbers, I bet the census bureau could help you come up with something.

    The bullshit about this has gone on too long. Let's have some real numbers.

    Oh all right. In 2000 it was 280,527 people according to the census bureau, I'll let you search for it yourself if you don't belive me.

    Because the law does not infer an individual liberty. How can they be expected to defend a right that you do not have?

    Also, if you do decide that the right is personal, you have to admid that it is as applicable to tactical nuclear weapons as to hunting rifles.
