It takes a thief to catch a thief, eh? No doubt, you are correct.
And lest Chris thinks this mess is truly over and done with, he should acquaint himself with Judge Penfield Jackson. Surely Netscape thought Jackson's November 5th, 1999 breakup order was the end of Microsoft. Instead it was the end of Jackson's career as a lawyer and a judge.
Personally, I find Dennis Miller's lawyer joke most insightful;
What is the difference between a lawyer and a vampire?
A vampire can look in the mirror, he just can't see himself.

Now the FAST java API looks like is going to be killed off in favor of a.NUT implementation.

Bill must have been exstactic that his wife's newspaper did such a fine hit-job on the Goog.
This is the same Washington Post that reported continuously on the travails of
Jack Abramoff - without ever mentioning the fact that most of his career was
spent under the employment of the Preston Gates law firm (yes, that Gates - firm was / is microsoft's legal arm).
KDE's Konqueror does a great job as a replacement for windows exploror. You'll just need to install KDE - if it isn't there already. Here's a screenshot from the KDE org site:
Not many programmers will admit it -- but if you refuse to intentionally write shitty code the 1st time so that you can throw it away and do a better job later, you are almost certainly going to unintentionally write shitty code the 1st time and keep it forever.
This sounds really hard -- and its totally non-intuitive, but it is the truth.
Pick a project that you know little about....and follow these steps:
Research your subject; learning just enough to grasp the very most important aspects
Code it fast and ugly; calling it v0.01
Throw the code away; you now will know the undiscovered parts of your research. Go back and fill in those gaps.
Code it fast and ugly once more; calling it v0.10
Through that code away.
Rewrite you application from scratch a third time. This time however, do it slow and deliberate. This time call it v0.20.
If your 3rd attempt produced useful and decent code - you probably should make it a library for your personal code toolkit.
The reasoning behind this is as follows:
your 1st crack at the code is to quick discover the blind spots in your understanding
your second crack refines your understanding while allowing you to jettison some of the burden of your crappy initial understanding. At this point most people would be afraid of losing their "good" thoughts/code. Actually, that isn't what happens. You remember the good and forget the bad. Honest. You just have to believe in yourself.
your 3rd attempt you give yourself the luxury of relaxed time constraints. You are highly likely to get things correct this time - as you know have the understanding you need and the experience of your previous attempts.
at step one don't "over-learn" your topic. You may be gathering a whole lot of BS requirements. You want to let the coding process show you, to a certain degree, what the really important stuff really is.
Who ever posted this article needs to stop pickin' on Microsoft. After all, Billy G. is just bein' a good 'mericun.
That Bill Gates finishes up his work at Microsoft in 2008? Hmmm. That thar be an election year. Maybe he'll just buy hisself a preziduncy.
This approach is similar in principle to the disclosures we provide when we have altered our search results to comply with local laws in France, Germany, and the United States.
WTF?
Forget China; Now I want to know how they are censoring content in the US!
I myself am working a a new version of this technology that adds the capability to change the "ding" sound the device makes when a new message arrives.
Because of this new feature (which I will patent shortly) it will be called the Dingleberry.
I knew something was missing!

KDE 3.5 Released
·
· Score: 2, Funny
With the 3.5 release KDE has added "KitchenSync".
The original specs for this are highly technical. You may need to watch many hours of HGTV before attempting to use this application.
At last, KDE is Komplete!
Seriously. How else could you make something like
this?
In my case, though, I switched because eclipse/java runs great on linux and my only special PC needs are PVR type stuff. XAWTV, TV TIME, and lately mencoder and PCHDTV's apps.
You can do PVR stuff on windows - but not with the kind of control I've got.
No, I do not use mythTv.
Seriously. Why would anyone in their right mind do that?
Here's a short list of the bad things that have happened to friends because of the commodity crap I've seen them buy in the past six months:
Shitty Dell hardware that doesn't work with generic 3rd part hardware like you'd expect (you must buy the Dell CD-ROM burner, for example)
HP machine so out of date with respect to patches that it was hopelessly foobarred by spyware the very first day it was brought home and plugged into a cable modem
E-machines puter that wouldn't accept its own darn driver updates from the internet
HP laptop that had to have its flatscreen replaced 3 times due to dead pixels
IBM thinkpad (T40 I recall) that BSOD'd constantly despite being returned several times for service
Why would anyone ever want to put up with that?
For myself, my family, and several of my friends - the better way is to either custom build yourself or have a geek friend do it.
Linux is software democracy. As with modern democracy, it is a systems that sucks; however its also tends to suck less than all other alternatives.

Err... meant to say that both 'microsoft' and 'a**hole' were highlighted.
When I searched for 'a**hole' on that microsoft-google search page, I noticed that both 'microsoft' and 'google' are highlighted. Makes sense, I suppose.

by those we work for.
We obsess about facts, and details, and truth. Because its really fuckin hard to fix shit without those things.
We abhor deception, vague generalities, and liers; i.e. generally speaking, the people we typically work for and the way they relate to us.
Naturally they would want to outsource us first chance they get.
Eventually they too will be outsourced, though.
And the only time we'll see them is when they bump into us at Walmart, saying, "Welcome to Walmart, how may I help you?"
You've been able to PAY for these codes via Linspire's click-n-run for over a year now.
And since linspire is Ubuntu based now - its pretty darn easy to install on ubuntu that way, too.
The linspire-ubuntu proprietary codecs stuff is actually old news.
The author of TFA just doesn't know how to Google. Perhaps he's afraid he might not be searching legally?

MiltiValent might be a better suggestion than PDFBox.
Only idiots will use [your software].
So that's why Microsoft's market share is so large.
I was wondering about that.
I'm amazed about several aspects of this case. For example, didja know there's a thing called the http://www.freeprotocols.org/rimBBPatentProblem/ma in.html>Whiteberry which seeks to avoid the patent pitfalls now dogging rim?
