This is just something you have, that you cannot easily change

The "Something you are" factor is meant to authenticate that the person presenting the credentials is really who they say they are and that they are present during the login process. The other two factors are typically used because they are far easier to implement and are not prone to the false-negatives that often occur with biometrics.

  12. Law could be used as a weapon! on FEC Extending Election Regulation to the Internet · · Score: 2, Interesting
To me, the interesting aspect of the Regulation is that violations are enforced by adding the estimated level-of-effort/value to a particular candidate's campaign expenditures. If a candidate's expenditures are deemed to be too high, the campaign is fined.

Could a competing campaign (say pro-candidate A) purposely create content (i.e. blogs) that was pro-candidate B with the sole intent of effecting FEC fines that could hurt the target candidate/party's ability to run the current or future campaigns?

  14. Micro-Payments on Visa To Push Swipeless Credit Cards · · Score: 1
First, the hardware to support this technology is NOT developed by Visa. There are hundreds of companies that develop Point-of-Sale (PoS) devices. Each POS device must pass Visa compliance testing before it can be used for Visa transactions (beyond EMV see the Visa PIN site).

One of the biggest values of such a solution has to do with Micro-Payment. How many times have you turned away from a drive-through because the lineup is too long. This class of business needs to be able to process an order (including settlement) quickly. The more orders they can put through in an hour, the more revenue the business generates.

Typically, this sort of transaction will also be done offline. This will allow the business to batch process their transactions at the end of the day, saving on transaction fees.

Don't get me wrong, Visa isn't being altruistic in this. The more they can encourage people to move away from debit or cash, the more credit transactions they process and the bigger the interest earning bills.
