    A Hummer H-2 with 25 MPG gasoline is an accomplishment.


    A Hummer H-2 with 15 MPG would be an accomplishment, 25 would be a miracle.

    From what I have read, from real world driving tests, the thing gets high single digits.

    I think a lot of sysadmins use the "testing" thing as an excuse to put off installing patches. "Well, everything works right now so I don't really want to mess with it."

    At least where I work, every patch has to hit the test enviornment before they even think about moving to production. Just throwing patches at critical systems can cause a world of hurt if something goes wrong. When you are held to 99%+ uptime, a patch that takes out an application or critical function should be caught in testing before ever reaching a production enviornment. You call it lazy, we call it job security.

    Having an MCSE doesn't make you a dumbass. Though framing the cert. and hanging it in your cube does hey, I have my MCDBA, CCNA, and A+ cards pinned to my cube wall, under a paper tray, right next to my box of Spongebob Jelly-pops ;)

    Personally, I know quite a few. A good portion of the MCSEs that I know are quite skilled in *nix. I think it is funny how narrow minded some of the people are here on slashdot.

    Taking a couple of tests because:
    a) they were free.
    b) they net you a couple more bucks an hour.
    c) gasp! you want to know a little more about a product that you have to work with every day.

    doesn't make you a dumbass.

    My dad pulls a lot of stuff, he also drives a lot. He chose to compromise:

    1 '90 Corsica: good milage, handles well in snow. Cost: about $1000. Good commuter.

    1 '94 F-250: Seats 5, Hauls the horses for search and rescues, race car to the track, firewood for winter, furniture, plus he can take it Off Road and not have to worry about dings and scratches. Plus the 460cid engine will pull more than pretty much any SUV. About $5000 for this beast.

    All paid in cash, never a monthly payment, both very reliable. He used the money saved from not buying a new SUV to get his pilot's liscense and keep up on his dirt track racer.

    Trying to get a parking spot in the ramp and every "compact only" space is taken by Suburban/Explorer/Blazer/Excursion/Escalade.

    I love my econobox. It handles really well, even in the MN winters.

    I don't think he was talking about lab made rubies, which CAN be easily identified. Almost indistinguishable can mean many things, in this case a simple microscope can tell the difference. The new methods of creating artifical diamonds takes special machines or in the case of the plasma method, they are just too perfect.

    People have PS2s that still play DVDs?

    Mine cannot make it through any movie that I own. My roomie and I have had 3 diff. PS2s, not a single one can play a DVD. (1 was returned because it flaked out after a month of use.)

    sorry, having my worst day in probably 5 years today.

    (breakup w/girl of 2 years, housemate disapears for a week and doesn't pay his share of rent, so we are getting evicted... work piled up to my ears.. 8 hours sleep since monday, can't type straight, spent my last $900 on tuition...)

    but, hey at least I have enough ramen for a couple weeks and a tent if I need to camp it until I find a new place ;)

    I also didn't include Reagan or Carter...

    I just don't think Bush is a good representative for the Republican party. I know Clinton had a bad background when it comes to military service. It is just bothers me that someone like Bush is leading our country. I tend to have some conservative views, I just don't seem to agree with his (mis)representation of the party. That is it.

    one Q.. am I ill-informed for not including Clinton, or for the quotes... I can provide sources for all of them if you like ;)

    I quit buying music off the major labels because their pop fluff sucks. That is it. Market something worth listening to, and I will buy it. It is as simple as that. If you want my business, offer somthing that I would enjoy. Until then, I am going to continue buying music from my favorite artists, 95% of whom are independant. -Ian
