Given how they've sued students for downloading mp3s and fined them vast amounts I wish it would happen. I was at an outdoor market yesterday and there were loads of pirate music CDs and DVDs for sale. Buy 4 albums for £5 etc..., these are the people the RIAA need to be targetting, these stalls were selling thousands.

It's an eye candy thing, displays CPU, Mem, Web news etc...
But it is also being used to create icon docks and other things.
No difference except you don't always pay for Linux filesystem tools.

Plus with every Windows release they keep changing NTFS slightly, meaning that disk partitioning tool or defrag tool you paid $100 for now needs a new version which isn't always free.
Depends if you're talking about GUI apps and desktops, if so then I would agree there are many clones.
If you're talking command line and server apps then I disagree.
Apache isn't a clone of IIS.
MySQL isn't a clone of Oracle, SQL Server.
Sendmail isn't a clone of Exchange server.
OpenOffice is and isn't a clone of MS Office, it provides similar features but uses XML for its file format, something that Microsoft have chickened out of using.
Anyway, you can run things like GIMP on Windows if you want. Without Linux and the Open Source community there would be very few decent free apps for Windows.
A computer need not be electronic. Have a look at Babbage sometime.
Early computers were people, they computed log tables. But they used to make mistakes, so Babbage designed a mechanical device to do the job. It was never completed and other such machines failed do to the inaccuracy of metal work back then.
So I think you need to revise you dumb troll opinions on who are the godfathers of computing.
Sure the US was arguably the first nation to produce a programmable electronic computer, the UK built electronic computing devices before the US, however they weren't programmable.
I'm sure they'll pocket it themselves, I don't see why they are investigating online activity anyway. Surely that's the job of the Police or the record labels themselves?
Have a look at Fluxbox, Enlightenment and projects like Slicker which is a more radical card based version of the KDE kicker. It's pretty unique in my eyes.

Cloning Windows? the screenshots I've seen of latest Windows betas seem to suggest they've lifted a few ideas from the Unix desktop as well.
I've been unemployed since 05/2002, my CV now has a large gap. I've been doing some home calls to repair Windows and PC problems and that's about it.
I've entered in my CV that I have been a self-employed computer engineer but I just know that employers will see this and think I can't be much good at it otherwise I wouldn't be looking for permanent work.
This isn't an advert, this is a market stall selling CDRs with inkjet printed covers.
Plus I think the give away with the movies is "DVD rip" on the front cover and the fact that they were selling X-Men 2 which isn't out on DVD yet.

A watch with no display.
:)
A walkman with no headphones.
A laptop with no keyboard or screen.
A mobile phone with no screen, mic or earpiece.
They're really going to corner the minialist arty gadget market

Ecology friendly not plant friendly, it's a natural by-product. Not something that has been cooked up in a lab somewhere.
It'd have as many bugs on it as inside it :)
Pee on the weeds, it's free and eco friendly :)
First find the oldest running hardware platform, then you might find the oldest software.
I would think that NASA use some very old hardware and software.

Then it got stuck behind a freight train :)

Basically a square of very tiny reflective mirrors with a spinning colour disc to colour the light they reflect.
DLP = Digital Light Processing.

It's a screen with a blue background with some text on it, can't find a way out of it though :)
Surely these adverts can be killed on Windows by pressing ALT F4 or CTRL ALT DEL then kill the window.
When a company gets an order from HP they should design a special product for them that self destructs :)
Tables and chairs that fall over etc..

They're writing a copyright law for a country that needs clean water and food? give us a break.
So much for the self rule of Iraq.
Call me cynical but has this been released as open source so it will be rapidly improved before being used in an Intel product?

Advice?
Make a kernel very tuneable and scalable and it should suit desktops and servers. Unless they're going for extreme performance :)
"No these are not cruise missiles, they are MP3 jukeboxes with a 40GB hard disk"
How does this affect the license terms contained in most products?
Microsoft are one of the pioneers of the "we're not liable for anything" licence.
