My employer provides me with an iPhone and I sometimes read news on it when I am not yelling at Siri. news.google.com got an 'upgrade' a month or so ago such that the 'headlines' stuff scrolls horizontally while the rest of the site is vertical. On one hand, this makes it easier for me to ignore the headlines, but mostly it makes my brain hurt.
Why is google all of a sudden making absurd, terrible design decisions in its news division?
I use it all the time. I use it for timers, and for turning some lights on and off. Sometimes I play music through it, but not often. I also ask for the weather. I don't use it for anything else.
The timers suck. I can't say 'Set a reminder at X for Blah" such that it'll tell me "Blah" at X time. It only chimes. It makes an incredibly annoying distinction between an alarm and a timer such that you can tell it to cancel all alarms; it says 'you have no alarms' and then five minutes alter your TIMER goes off, and it bleeps.
The music stuff sucks. It constantly tries to upsell you on the service. It constantly gets the wrong music and doesn't LEARN from what you say. So you can say you want My Way, by the Sex Pistols 20 times, and when you just ask for My Way without specifying, it's gonna give you Seth Macfarland. And it's only gonna play 10 seconds and then tell you to subscribe to Amazon Music Unlimited. If the title of your song is in not in English, woe unto you -- Alexa will never find it, no matter how carefully you feed it details. Try asking for anything by Sonora Dinamita.
The Echo is, simply put, a piece of shit. And not just plain shit, it's offensive up-selling shit.
But I STILL use it, because a voice interface is so dang convenient. (The weather function is actually FINE.)
Echo isn't the market leader because it answers your questions well, it's the leader because people have them because they've been on the market more than a year already. Same with Siri -- It also sucks monkeys, though at least it doesn’t try to upsell you. People have Siri because they have iPhones. Nobody would want Siri if there could be competition in that space.
These products are here because the voice area is so obviously something we want, and all the initial products are dropping the ball hilariously. When someone comes out with an actually good product, all this early stuff is going in the dumpster overnight.
I'm hoping Hound or some other small company will get it right and be bought by Google and shoved everywhere. If Amazon buys 'em they'll convert it into a unusable up-selling tool again.
Literally something like 10 linear feet of regulations. It makes doing business as a telecom almost impossible.

Because absurd regulation is a way that deep-pocketed incumbents make sure they never get any competition.
If they legitimately want the regulation gone, it means they don't feel threatened by any startups, right now. Though actually, I think they're just lying. They pay lip service to wanting it gone, but if things start to move in that direction, they'll make a few discreet visits to their congresss-critters and make sure things quietly stop.
This means that the DoD can start using two digits for dates again. And while that won't happen much it WILL happen. And old people or people injured in a previous war, etc. will get screwed in some way.
Does it really hurt to force them to keep their Cobol/other stuff pushing fixed text records around using 4 digits?
The right pattern here is to make bad choices not illegal, but more expensive.
If we'd simply put a reasonable, sliding upward over time gas tax in place Detroit would have sold even more cars, the air would be cleaner, we'd have spent less on healthcare, there would have been more push forward on electrics (and the batteries those need, as well as more efficient electricity production), and we'd have saved a ton of money on wars connected to oil producing countries.
And we would have bought less gas. Oh. Wait, I see why that didn't work.
But does it do multi-device/multi-room? Can you play the same song on multiple devices? Can you ask a question in one room and just have the closest one answer?
It doesn't matter. He's not going to win. If you vote Libertarian now, you might have a COUPLE of libertarian candidates to chose from in the next cycle, and you might have a Libertarian on the debate stage to push the Republican candidate slightly further into the Libertarian positions.
You are not voting for Johnson, you are voting for a third party. You should do it, because the current two are crap.
In 12 years, either the Libertarian party will have replaced the Republican party, or (much more likely) the Republican party will embrace more Libertarian ideas, but only if you vote Libertarian now. Johnson as a person is unimportant.
(I also think Democrats outside of swing states should vote libertarian, because I think a Libertarian win will also improve push the Democratic platform. It's a win-win for either party.)
Voting for Stein won't get you any power. Her numbers are too small. If she gets 4% (which would be amazing) it won't influence anyone or get reported.
Voting for the pot-head-know-nothing (true or not) Johnson will accumulate some numbers in that bucket, and 6% or 7% of electorate voting for him will get him in the news, and perhaps get his successor on a debate stage.
I'd personally rather we had a decent Green candidate to vote for, but we don't. And even if we did, right now voting Johnson would be the better strategic move. Giving a third party more power will also help a fourth.

(She's the only major candidate, for example, who supports H-1Bs.)
There are three kinds of states: Ones where Hillary will stomp Trump, ones which will vote him in just because he has an R next to his name no matter what, and ones where there's actually some sort of contest. If you're in either of the first two types of states, you need to vote for Johnson because your vote doesn't count unless you do, and it counts big time if you do.
If you're a Republican, you need to send a message to your party that letting this kind of crap happen is unacceptable. You WILL leave if they pitch for racism and stupidity.

They'll partner with another company. There will be lots of hoopla, but nothing will come of it, and the partnership will dissolve.
They'll buy a company which is well-respected and doing well/poised to succeed. It will rapidly go down the toilet and they'll sell it.
[ optional step ] They'll come out with their own product too late.
They'll partner with successful companies to get hooks into cars which link to their other products. This will be marginally profitable. They will attempt to use this to gain as much leverage as possible. This may or may not be successful, but will anger people.
This is such a great idea. I've always wanted to remove the separation between simple execution scripts and complex code which is difficult to understand. it really bugs me that we have these "standards" which simplify portability and make things clear.
Ideally in a few years, we will have inscrutable, half-assed code all over the execution space. This will give people the opportunity to learn python so they can debug simple execution wrappers. EXCELLENT!
But if it's not ready yet, we don't have to wait for it... we can simply replace all the.sh files on our systems with.pl files. That'll make everyone happen, too, and we can start today!

Python's not as bad as it could be. It's tedious, but relatively clear. I think it's a fine language for other people to program in.
