If I'm in a park with my kids and some freak grabs one from behind my back (not likely since one of my tricks is to keep them in front of me), I would like to be able to find out where they are as odds are good they aren't going to be visible.

Personally I prefer Proteus, v4 is out (beta) looks really nice. It's not free or open source but I like it. It's has very similar in features to Adium (-ducks), both use libgaim, I know you can change the ducks...

Having just recently (the past year) switched from Windows I needed something close to Trillian and a year ago Adium didn't work for me, Fire (in my opinion) is ugly so I ended up with Proteus.

eh, you're right. If buying a $3 NIC and calling the purchase an OEM deal is good enough for Microsoft, why should I care.

I found XP Home for ~$85, OEM or ~$72 CD only OEM.

XP Pro is around $130 or $120 CD only.

Realistically, if you are going to compare XP to Panther, you should probably compare Pro as feature to feature that is a better match. Which makes them pretty much the same price or Panther cheaper as Fry's is selling Panther for $109 this week ;)

As it works out, people do slam on the brakes as soon as they see the yellow. I have not seen any accidents, but I have seen many close calls, usually when a person who doesn't drive the area regularly is behind a local.

In the majority of L.A. the chance of speeding during rush hour and messing up the traffic paterns is pretty much non-existant, because well traffic around here sucks.

While I agree with you in principle, the CDs that you burn just don't sound right and I'm not even talking about mp4 => CD => (mp3|aac|whatever) just mp4 => CD

When iTunes first came out I bought 2 full albums that I knew I had access to original store bought CDs. Going from iTunes => CD just sounds off, generally (to me) in the highs and lows, almost as if they have over compensated.

Of course it's all subjective, but to me listening to mp4 using line out from a PowerBook into the stereo sounds much better than playing a CD burned from the same source.

If you feel compelled to convince yourself that you are good human every day, you probably aren't. You generally know if you were a good person or not, if you weren't, you try and do better tomorrow, not try to convince yourself otherwise.

What's really more important, to me anyway, is that I am a good person more often than not.
