    Points 2 and 3 can easily be avoided by merely reading the manual.

    Search for "Configuration File Protection" on that page.

    As with anything else if you don't bother to RTM you are going to have problems.

    I doubt they are going to use a PPC chip to keep people from putting Linux on the Xbox2.

    There are numerous PPC Linux distros out there and quite a lot of open source code builds just fine on PPC or can be ported fairly easily.

    But I could be wrong. I don't work for Microsoft.

    Or for Los Angeles in particular, you better check it quick, there isn't usually that much green on that map. Check it around 5:30p Pacific to see how nice it is to live in LA.

    Actually, Gimp's layout is a lot better for multi-monitor (or multi-desktop) layouts (yes, for those who insist on using a single-window layout can use the new dockable feature, so Gimp can do both) so I'd say it's already somewhat better than Photoshop, especially in the usability department.

    I believe your argument only holds water for the Windows version, at least as I remember it.

    The Mac version of Photoshop has the menubar and floating toolbars, put them wherever you want.

    I'll have to check out the new release on the Mac though, sounds better than it was.

    They are nice, not sure they are worth the price though.

    Just a tip, if you get one, don't keep your wallet in your back pocket when you are sitting in it. The mesh that they use is like a cheese grater and you will wear holes in your pants failry quickly.

    Maybe it's just me though, I tend to fidget a bit. Now where is my coffee cup??

    I discipline him to try, usually in vain, to teach him that chewing the cable is bad.

    Have you tried a spray bottle of water?

    We have 2 cats, they both run as soon as they see you reach for the bottle. After he gets a wet butt a few times he may realize that what he is doing is a bad idea.

    Then again he may just look at you thinking "I'll get you back for that", you know the look.

    I am going to give you a couple of links and second a tip that another poster made. Since I use Gentoo and grub I don't want to tell you exactly how I do this and have it break your stuff ;)

    You should be able to install many kernels side by side just by using the kernel-version and System.map-version naming scheme and I highly recommend you do that and add entries to your lilo.conf for each one you want to test. Then you shouldn't need to use your live cd to save your self.

    Which distro? Which boot loader?

    I'm not sure how the Live CD fits in unless you plan on using it for a recovery.

    To be honest I don't use the 911 service on my Vonage line so I don't know the details all that well... sorry, I whored...

    I have a Vonage line becuase my wife used to do outside sales and had accounts all over the US and a couple over seas. You make more that 20 minutes worth of calls to the UK and Vonage becomes a really good deal. Her average phone bill before Vonage was ~$400 a month

    This will mean extra $$$ that the VoIP providers will have to put out, which ultimately means extra $$$ that the consumer will have to put out.

    Vonage added this a while back, more info here and oddly enough, my bill went down after they implemented it.

    Yes, I know he was trying to be an ass, that doesn't mean I have to stay quiet. Maybe he didn't realize he wasn't on the main page, it seems like an easy mistake ;)

    You do relaize that you are reading apple.slashdot.org, right?

    You can find *BSD info here, the linux stuff is pretty much everywhere and Windows has moved to a monthly cycle, so you need to wait a couple more weeks and check here ;)

    If you use a browser that supports keywords (don't they all now?) you can add them to the end of the keyword string

    Of course you would have to add a +-site: for each one.

    At this point there's no way to save it as a pref, but you could always drop it in a text file to keep a big list

    One more question?

    I have been trying to get this to work, I've seen the docs and I think I'm doing it right...

    I want to use my own build of apache and php, I don't want all the bloat in the base packages.

    I built my .ebuild, named it the same as the production one and put it in my PORTDIR_OVERLAY, but every time I try to emerge something that requires apache it wants to emerge the stock one. I even tried "pinning" the version after I emerged my package.

    Any ideas?

    My wife developed 2 web sites which never got indexed even though we submitted these using Google's interface. As they might not be linked, I suppose Google just considers that if nobody mentions a site, then the site should not be registered as existing ? Do Google think it actually is the web ?

    Put it in your sig as a link, get a few high rated posts and google will visit.

    2) I am about to run my final set of tests to determine my distro for a production box, do you have any CFLAGS tips to get the most performance out of Gentoo before I write it off as too much work not enough gain??

    The box is a DP Athlon MP 2400, 1G RAM, 120G drives x 2

    I was planning on hitting #gentoo on freenode when the box gets here on Tuesday... but here you are
