Perfect example, too, of WHY linux won't be around most home users systems anytime soon. The problem lies in finding ease of use, and security.

I would love to see someone argue that a 14 year old kid with $10,000 "worth" of songs would have paid $10,000 for them had they not been able to download.

    I'll take that challenge.

Little amy downloaded her first song. Say value of said song is 99 cents. Thus, she "stole" 99 cents worth of music. Could she have paid 99 cents for it then? Possibly.

See, you miss the point. It all starts with 1 song. Then it grows as you get each song. It's not like anyone's downloading a single song "worth" $10k. They download them 1 (or an album) at a time, which has a very definate value. If you were to walk into Best Buy and shoplift a CD, it's not any different, except due to the anonymosity of the internet, you don't have to physically go anywhere to do your stealing.

Personally, I hope they can prove that the computer connection from their household did download music. Then they can just sue the household, and let the family members assign blame.

  4. Re:Ahh, Slashdot... on USPTO Reexam Finds $521M Eolas Patent Valid · · Score: -1

You see, Mozilla's browsers infringe on this patent in exactly the same way as Internet Explorer. Microsoft just got sued first, and while they claim they won't sue Mozilla, it is just that, a claim.

See, this is where I have a problem. They should force patent holders to enforce their patent at all times, or risk losing the patent. Similar to Trademarks. Suing and getting money from MS, but not suing anyone else is bogus if ya ask me. The Government should make it where if they don't defend against all comers, then they lose the patent.

Maybe then they will finally start seeing how some software patents are stupid as hell.

  6. Re:"A" Linux Operating System? on Unreliable Linux Dumped from Crest Electronics · · Score: -1

Sorry, pal. Maybe it's true for some other slashweenies, but in my experience, the reliability of Linux IS truly legendary, and is why I've standardized on Linux anywhere I can possibly use it. And I had a Windows NT server that ran our Exchange Server and MS SQL Server on the same box, as well as handled print queues and home directories, for a company with 120 people (yeah, not super huge, I know), that had rebooted twice in the span of about 2 years. Once was when power went out and the UPS batteries drained and the generator ran out of fuel, the other was when I performed a SQL server patch that required a reboot.

So what. Any system can be stable, all depends on what you do with it.

Since you've standardized anywhere you can possibly use it...tell us this - if it's "legendary" why isn't is used at home for most "normal" people? Oh, right, because they can't play their games on it :P Funny how legendary is shot down by games.

  9. Re:Let the thrashing begin! on Korean Mozilla Binaries Infected · · Score: -1

Yeah yeah - and this is the same reason people at home won't run Linux for a long ass time. Because to them, logging in as root is the same as just booting their computer in Windows. Mom and Pop won't know any better, and unless someone else configures the machine and never lets them even know the root password, and hopefully lets them install and run everything else (much less updating the kernel for security updates and whatnot), Linux will not, simply NOT, be mainstream in households.

    Wonder why that is.

Apple may make great hardware and software (up til now, their software sucked). However, that comes at a premium price that costs a lot more than a wintel solution. And I guarantee you that Windows is compatible with more hardware than any Apple OS to date.

So if you drop a hair follicle or drink from a paper cup (which the company paid for), technically, it's not yours anymore since you gave up your right since you didn't keep control of it (in terms of the hair) or the cup is company property in their garbage on their premises....

They can test DNS from many ways - not requiring you to give them a blood/saliva sample directly.

I don't have a problem with it - if you have a genetic issue that could prevent you from doing the job you're being hired for, I don't think they should have any reason to hire you over someone who doesn't have it. It's not any different than not having to hire someone in a wheelchair to sweep and mop the steps in your building. There's resonable expectation that you have to be able to do the work.
