I can't recall how many times I installed something, had a minor hiccup that wasn't documented, and then spending days learning about a hundred other related factors, like configs, package managers, iptables, gcc, drivers, and worse.... just to get one dumb litte program.
I suppose it's not a bad thing, but it is annoying.
Why would you give online away for free, and charge for the pulp edition? You're generating revenue by giving people your conent via the medium of their choice.

Iraq admitted to making 3.9 tonnes of VX, which it said it destroyed, created 8300 litres of anthrax spores, and admitted to creating 812, then changed that to 790 tonnes of sarin
You guys are using the word 'information' rather ambiguously.
Let me ask this... What if somone scraped 'information' from a favorite of people around here, O'Reiley.
I can't believe nobody's brought this up yet. Hey, let's mod it, and put linux on it, and teach it to hate microsoft, and slap on some cold cathode ray tubes while we're at it.
You're right. Take it for your personal use. Make a dirty lymeric out of it. We don't care.
Just don't republish it without our permission.
Blind people can sue us all they want. We're not an american company. Yeah. Low blow, but if we wanted our content syndicated, then we'd develop rss feeds, and xml templates... which by the way, are coming soon.
You know, I think some of you are missing the point in all the technology.
I work for a community newspaper publishing company, and we have copyright info at the bottom of every page.
I found a guy on google that demonstrates screen scraping techniques using our main news page.
That's fine. 99% of the time, it's not a big deal...it's going to happen.
What we don't like is when somebody comes along, takes our content, and presents it in questionable environments, like a page that happens to have porn banners on it. Ever hear of "guilty by association"?
Frankly, I think it's more likely to happen if screen scraping becomes more commonplace. Honestly... i haven't noticed a drop in traffic when someone does this.
Unfortunately I can't repeat them in public.
They're the names I call the lovely girls in my life.
They swoop in, there's lots of dampness and blowing at first, but when they leave, they take the house.

The web design officer's site at the bottom of the burnallgifs site uses gifs. Mmmk.

You guys are making jokes, but I'm sorry... this is the most haunting thing I've read in a long time.
It's a balding fat perv that hangs out on yahoo chat posing as a 12 year old. Man you guys are naive.
nono... I meant that if 10MB is $30/yr, then do the math for a large pile of mail you want to keep around. Yeah. mmmmmmbox gooood.
Oh that's cute. And obviously everybody will need to purchase more storage space....my .pst file is over 100MB.
Where are those mod points when you need them?

Ok. How about I sell you a car. I'll put plastic lug nuts on the wheels, so when they go... and we all know they will... we'll sell you metal ones.
That's ok... it's not like anybody updates their system anyway.
It will work, and it is working.

Thank god it wasn't the underpants gnomes!
Perhaps if you're bored, you can filter out php stories in your preferences.

Damn.
Hey, I saw Newtons for $10.....
Uh....
Oh, right. That's not a typo.
We don't use it because it won't sync with our blackberries.
The question is, can OSS keep up with the hundreds of niche usages that are minor things, but renders it useless to enterprises?
Let me ask this... What if somone scraped 'information' from a favorite of people around here, O'Reiley.
How would you feel then?
I can't believe nobody's brought this up yet.
