Slackware doesn't have the advanced features of more modern distros (like Gentoo), but I still find uses for it. It's perfect for a media center or a MAME cabinet. It's good to see it's still going strong, especially with an official 64-bit version.
The real problem is lack of games. Nerds play games. Nerds set the trends in computing. The moment Linux gets as many games as Windows has, and released on the same day, that is when it can start to "take over". Whenever I talk to Microsofties about why they chose to use Windows Server over a free unixlike platform, their answer is "well, Windows can play all my games". It seems to go past them that you don't play games on your server, but this is how some people think.
Citadel is obviously a modified BBS program. I tried it on a company server, and it just wouldn't work out. Configuring it is a pain in the ass, and nothing really makes sense. It doesn't integrate well with OpenLDAP either.
I suggest using SOGo with postfix and dovecot. Makes a very nice Exchange replacement.
I've been using Slack on various machines for 8 years now, and it's still one of my favourites. I keep it installed on my parents' PC so that I don't have to drive down there every week to fix a Windows virus or a Ubuntu fuckup.
Switched to Xfce over a year ago and never looked back. I can get all the same functionality, while maintaining the ability to control certain aspects of my computer. GNOME is just too bloated and is going in the wrong direction. If Xfce can clone the functionality and do it with less resources, there is something wrong with GNOME.
Is it in WMA format? I read the article quickly and didn't see anything stating the format.
But anyway, I refuse to pay for a WMA... or an MP3, even. Especially when there's DRM involved. There's no way I'm going to pay for a lossy Microsoft format.
Can you really blame them for wanting to abandon XFree86? The project has obviously stagnated, and I for one am glad we're going to feel the benefits of forking.
Because computers are not appliances, perhaps? I think you need to rethink what a computer really is before grouping it together with a microwave, or a fridge. Very VERY different things.
I like Tigert's the best. Those mockups look like garbage. Really, what more do we need than a simple file selector that works? I don't want crazy widgets and special features, I just want the goddamn thing to select my files and do it right. Preferably there should be the ability to see many files at once, instead of like 8. At least 16 things should be viewable at any one time.
The reason media players are on that list is because average Joe clicks on all 6 porno movies that are listed on each free porno page. That means 6 times the amount of requests for porn movies in WMP than sites in a browser.
I can't believe it's really here. I was playing console games, then came back to my computer, refreshed kernel.org, and there it was! I nearly had a heart attack. It's really here... and it just seems unreal. I just don't know how long it will take for me to get used to 2.6.x version numbers after these years of having 2.4... I'll miss you, 2.4.
When humans feel no pain (like crackheads) they go crazy and stab things. What happens when cows feel no pain? Do they go on a rampage?
Mod this up.

If you read it you'll find out that it's basically the BSD license. Why jump to conclusions just because it's Microsoft?

I believe that natural drugs (mescaline, mushrooms, DMT) are the key to discovering God. Everyone calls me crazy.
You a terrorist, boy?
AMD is implementing SSE3, and when dual cores come out, Hyperthreading won't matter anymore.
I pay for music in CD form, and rip to FLAC. It sounds to me like you need to smoke a joint and calm down, before you have a heart attack.

I spend all day in front of the computer. I also spend all day smoking marijuana, so I guess I don't have to worry :)
I got it yesterday. It performed a lot better (smoother looking) than on Windows, so I was happy.

Sure, it might be good, but I do have one major problem with it... .exe file extensions! I don't want .exe's on my Linux box!
Crossover Office. Ever heard of it? I use it, and it works great.
But it also happens to be about 20% more than 53... I think that's what they mean.
It's been said that it will run with Linux, but only with NVIDIA cards from John Carmack himself.

The other guy was DNTEL. DNTEL is great stuff too.
