Much of the pain is borne by desk personnel who have to use the new system. "From an employee standpoint it has had a demoralizing effect because it's making the job more difficult," said Ken Polk, the Marine Corps representative to the Federal Managers Association
He continued, "The new systems actually have the audacity to tell us where we want to go today, and how to get there. Thats the sort of decision we try to make for other people. Geez."
I'm not gonna sell that patent, it's gonna make me big money soon! By the way, can I patent "Method for moving items to the moon for less than $10 per pound", or do I have to expand upon this further? This is my one big idea out of life, I don't want to mess it up!
They're just taking their cue from the largest group of American's with disabilities: Window's users (Henceforth, WUs).
Sure, they're disabled. But they were born as WUs, so it's not their fault. Besides, sometimes that sort of thing just happens. However, when groups like the ADA look at WUs, they feel like they're not doing their job. When one disabled group gets everyone to cater to their needs, but none of the others do, it puts honest disabled defenders such as the ADA in a bad light.
What can we do to fix this? Obviously, we need to stop catering to the WUs as much. Maybe give them second or third place consideration. That should make other honest disability defenders back off, since there isn't such a successful archetype to emulate.
Since alot of the posters seemed to miss this, the bill is being introduced as congress is about to close this session. In case you don't know, forgot, et cetera, when congress closes session, all bills on the floor do not get resolved. So, unless this bill magically gets voted on and passed really quickly, the best we can hope for is for someone to bring this issue up again, next year. Otherwise, it's somewhat of a publicity stunt to introduce a bill this late in the session.
I'm sick of all these battery cars. When are we going to see a Nuclear Car? What's that? Fuel's too expensive? Bah, I'm sure the price will come down once they get mass-produced. No where to store the waste? What about Yucca? (Or the moon! Our large waste disposal site in the sky). Those are the only downsides to this limitless energy source that I see! Enough with these battery powered cars, it's time for the nuclear ones!
If you read the article closely, the biggest way to protect a *nix system against hacks is to update regularly. I guess their list is assuming people don't keep updated (which, based on the fact *nix hosted webpages are defaced, may be correct). So incase you're not already, update your packages, people.
Otherwise, the Nix issues don't really seem to be there.
If I have a linux distrobution, and I want to have a decent webserver with great uptime, the cheapest solution is probably not to host my own servers. One can select between a myriad of online hosts that already have the generators, UPS, backup systems, redundancy, and a fat pipe. So, clearly, if they are not running their own distro to serve web pages, I don't think it's a good deal.
Yeah, but, it doesn't look like they're running a professional organization here, yet. If I making a distro with a few friends or other interested people (and their list of contributors if I recall was under 10 people....but the page is/. right now so I can't check), then I'd sure want to have my own server running on my own distribution. For bragging rights if nothing else.
The bills also would amend a 1998 law, the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, that makes it a crime to circumvent technological protections built in to copyrighted works. Instead, consumers would be allowed to bypass the technology if the intent is to make a copy for personal use.
Does this mean I can finally take my camcorder into the cinema to make a copy for personal use?
...I'd move to America, and then sue them. You're much more likely to win here...Mental stress induced by overly complicated severance paperwork. Should be a quick and painless way to at least quadruple your firing-bonus.
Yeah, I'm gonna agree with all that since I have 2 patents, 1 through a large company that I saw money once from, and 1 independantly that I might hope to actually get cash from some day. If anything comes up, then I'll hire a lawyer, but you really don't need a lawyer for the initial filing. All that they really do is patent searches and paperwork initially. Their big money is in IP litigation and defense, and you can hire a lawyer to do that after you already have a patent.
Evidentally, someone forgot to refill the fuel cells on the server.
Actually, it was a multi-level joke...
Since that article appears short, here are some more interesting links on mini fuel cells powering gadgets:
Discussion from January of the concept
Apple Laptops
Air clearance for them
Oh it was a fully intentional double-entendre.

And after this project is deemed a success, the Navy plans to decomission the USS Constitution.....

You know, it was a joke. Maybe if something sounds ridiculous, it's cause it was supposed to be.

Actually, /. Posted a story awhile back about people who made a mod for blind people to play quake. Here is the link.

They're evolving! Now they can survive in extremely low pressure environments without oxygen! Argh! Sorry, that picture on their webpage cracks me up.

Hey, palms get lonely too.
Now I can keep my pesky roommates out of my palms oh-so-full social calendar.

...just file it yourself. Last I checked this was a valid option, if you don't mind the mountain of paperwork.
My mother doesn't let me do more than 4.8 G's for half a second.
