Safari is definitely not a closed source browser. It's based on KHTML, from the Konqueror open source browser. Apple gives its changes back as required by the license to the Konqueror group.

I have the ATI TV Wonder, and the included software is terrible. It hijacked my other media players, it's clunky, and it looks horrible. The best solution (for Windows) is Dscaler, no other programs I've seen come close to the great simplicity of dscaler. Best of all, it's open source.

Standalone DVD recorders are not expensive anymore. I saw a DVD recorder for $200 at costco a week ago. Firewire in, remote, all the bells and whistles. I might just get that pretty soon, it even had a TV tuner. It only supported DVD+R(and RW) (why?) and was some brand I'd never heard of. But hey it's Costco, no stupid restocking fee if you don't like it.

    Or maybe:

"I think it's unfortunate that they caught that guy by using Night Vision goggles. Myself, I'll be watching it on DVD. Well, that and moving my home PC to Gentoo."

The latest version of Real Player for Windows is actually pretty nice. I installed it the other day, and they've really made progress on the whole adware /hidden opt-in fiasco. The player defaulted to the minimum no frills compact mode, and I've found real video's video codec to be very competitive with quicktime. I'm the one who made the buffering joke, but Real has been trying to clean up their act lately (link to free player on main page), and I support them for that.

While I completely agree with you, the biggest draw of the iMac to me is OS X. But I'd have to say that it would be cool to have an all-in-one machine with an LCD that was cheap, linux or OS X. The iMac is not cheap at 1200 dollars. The flat screen accounts for just 300-ish dollars of the price.

What's so evil about SBC? Should I pay charter cable the same price for half the service (768k down)? It's a free market. I can choose another provider if I want, and I choose not too.

What is our culture going to give to the world? Avril Lavigne, 50 Cent? Where's *our* Aretha, our Doors, our Zeppelin?

I don't care about Payola anymore, because I don't care about Radio anymore. OK, except for Indie 103.1 in LA (their commercials are handled by Clear Channel!), and several college stations. I hope my contempt cathes on with High School kids and their parents, because then Radio just might come back one day and blow us all away with all the good music that's being made everywhere but ignored by the only 5 labels that really matter to radio.

    UHF? Love that movie.
