Software can be altered easially throughout it's lifetime. You can't take a piece of a bridge out make it better and put it back in.
Developing with XP let's you get to the point, realize your mistakes or places that can be improved, and do so quickly. The concept is that the design will evolve out of the code.
I have to admit, when I first heard of it I was the same way, but I've found that for small projects, with few people, it works well and the code does naturally evolve into a decent design using proper refactoring techniques.
Yea, I wouldn't want to do it all the time every day, but I find that two brains on something can make for much better code. We use the concept here when there is a difficult task to be completed. It seems to work pretty well.
Yup. But then they would be the target of massive complaint by users who didn't know any better. They can't afford to deal with that no matter how much money they have.
In my opinion, we need to have technically minded individuals working on this case, we need to focus on anti-competitive practices such as the licensing agreements with OEMs instead of what software they bundle. This is getting just plain stupid, the longer this goes on, the stupider the states look.
I heard on that they are indeed looking to create a.kids domain. Kid safe sites will be urged to register that domain, and the content is suppossed to be monitored for appropriate content by some private corporation.
Sorry I don't have any details. I heard that on the radio this weekend. I was listening to Kim Commando cause she was the only thing on...
What the heck! We're talking about making rockets and submerines and stuff out of this super concrete?!?!?? Let's be practical and fix the damn streets with the stuff!!!
I'm not going to complain about the way that Sun manages he Java environment, they do a darn good job at involving the community in the process, however, IBM has also done great things for Java and their management of the technology would be as good or better than Suns does.
IBM has a strong loyality to the OS community, I doubt we would ever see their Eclipse platform introducing propriatary stuff into the langauge.
Everquest if not a real place, we can prove it. It runs on computers and over the internet only. But can you prove that Heaven is not real? I think not.
Your efforts to show superiority has resulted in the revealing your ignorance.
I'd love to play this game, but I have never done so for two reasons...
1. I realize that the real world is more importiant than a make believe virtual world. Placing more importiance in the latter will lead to destructive results in the previous, like ignoring your family, playing instead of working, not to mention poor personal hygiene. Eventually, you will have to deal with it.
2. Having a good character means having to compete with the other players in game, so that means you have to be a fanatic to have a comparable character with 80% of the other players. Then we're back at the problems induced by #1.
However, I do not attribute this to the makers of the game at all, they made the best game they could and it worked! If the player cannot control himself and play the game in moderation, then he is at fault. This lady seems to think they could have made the game less addictive, well, doesn't that imply that the game would not be as fun? Like I said, it's hard to play the game in moderation though, sort of a paradox.
Of course, I could be worng, since I've never played. But I know people who do and they spend way more time than I ever could. So I assume I could never have as good of a character.
I agree. It may be a little overprotective, but it could have saved the life of that little girl in California, or those two girls currently missing in Utah.
If a school can get some nice tools for free, then hey! alright!
CS is not about tools, it's about concept and design and problem solving. Any good CS major knows how to develop software independant from any specific language. So if they want to learn about software using MS stuff, then go right ahead.
Just because students aren't forced to use GCC is not a bad thing.
That's great, I'm always interested in something new. But my concern is that in all these comments and articles, I haven't heard (or should I say hurd) of any software, a windowing system? Can unix apps be compiled for HURD? What's the story on this?
You have to decide what the ethical response to your situation is. If you sit around and watch something you know is wrong happen, then you are at fault for not alerting the proper people.
If what they are doing is legal, but you think it is wrong nonetheless (wouldn't be the first time) then let your bosses know you don't agree with the situation and propose a better solution yourself. At least, if nothing else, when the shit hits the fan you can say, "I told you so".
Different Perspective is sometimes a useful tool, and in combination with people trained to write software, good things can be accomplished. However, I wouldn't want to use software written by a bunch of Psychology majors. No offence.
I use VI as well. I've programmed in C/C++ for years and am currently working on a Java project today.
I don't think you can relate the number of books on bookstore shelves to the popularity of the language directly. Java has just come out (compared to C and the older languages) and so like any other new thing, tons of worthless books were written to take advantage of the "Newness factor". Those worthless books are being weeded out and only the worthy will survive, thus the numbers of "Java for Dummys" type books will go down and we'll be left with the few quality books that are really out there, same as it is with most of the C/C++ text today.
I'd say that I am equally experienced with both Java and C and C++. I'd go with C++ any day for most projects, and I wouldn't be sad if I didn't have to do any Java anymore. But I do think it has a purpose, mostly related to serverside web based stuff and web based stuff in general. But it's just another choice, you can do the same with PHP or Perl etc.
So why is sun fighting with Apache? Who knows, but I appriciate all the work the Apache group has done for us and I think Sun is way off base here. They should concerntrate on building up the fortifications for the oncoming.NET vs. Java war. Better to hava Apache as a friend than a foe in that battle.

What a waste of money. Just walk people, or if it's too far to walk, buy a sweet bike and ride. At least you won't look like a loser riding by on your gay little scooter...
Damn, there goes my hole analogy!!! :) At least I got a pun in there.
Totally Agree.

Just leave it canceled... Please?

I got the impression Sun was not exactly wooing IBM... I got the impression that they would be very much against that sort of thing.
they invented stuff...
The dotcommers only invented creative ways to do nothing with lots of money!
This is the dumbest idea I've ever heard. If I want to run old software, then it's my problem!
It's not the developers job to force people to upgrade if they don't want to.

The folks at Google have always proven to be extreemly innovative. They will find a solution to the problem that nobody else has even considered...

Yea, but sounds like this company was mismanaged to a large degree. More money could possibly have lead to even more problems... Unfourtunatly.

You claim is made completly without fact. Show us some stats and we might believe you (if in fact what you assume is true is).

Sure, I understand. But you will also complain about it later if it does get implemented and nobody will believe you!
Why are all you dorks posting your ideas? Go do it, or don't complain when someone implements your idea and wins a bunch of money!!!
