Well you can no longer say WebObjects without now mentioning the vibrant WOnder community creating kickass frameworks. And then there still is the secret weapon of the WebObjects developer, DirectToWeb! I now call it DirectToClient as my productivity has skyrocketed with Wonder and D2W. And with some new frameworks on the horizon to sync CoreData with EOModeler and such.... well, WebObjects is looking like it will still be the best kept secret and keep me ahead of the competition.

Last November I had ALL my servers stolen there. Now over all the years I have had servers I have backed up data, upgraded servers, clean installed servers, etc., then that fateful day in November after being stonewalled for days I finally went over to the data center only to find ALL my servers stolen. All my data. Yea I had some offsite backups, etc, but .... stolen. I guess they thieves really liked my XServes. They were nice and shiny in a sea of beige and black. Anyway, they gave me some free hosting after that, so, I said ok.. big mistake... about a month ago two of my three servers were stolen. Thankfully I had them a bit spread at the datacenter. Well, can I sue? What can I do now? Same bs, promising me servers and nothing. Last year I lost a lot of clients,,, granted all but two were mostly very small time hosting accounts. This time I now lost a big client even though I got them back up and running asap... get a server, install configure, read the files from the backup server, etc. Anyway it was truly the worst feeling I have had in many a year. It is definitely bs. And what do the Chicago PD do? Well your guess is as good as mine.. maybe they are out ticketing the thieves truck as their meter runs out. Any lawyers out there that can help?

I believe in free markets. Period. With all of MS's might and batallion of IP lawyers, etc., they should have bought up their name space years ago. But no.... let's regulate, let's get lawyers, the Internet is dangerous!!! We must regulate it! We must tier it! We must protect the people! Especially the corporations!

I personally have lost names I wish I still had, have secured names for future purposes and have been very frustrated trying to find other names not taken. Annoying yes, life is competitive and certainly not fair. However, I have never seen regulation do anything but ensure more revenue for the big players and of course the government.

I am sure microsoft could afford to pay any cybersquatter a decent amount of money to get back a domain they will then hold forever. Personally I know of a legitimate company that had a name similar to youtube and instead of complaining adapted their site to take advantage of all the new traffic. Why is is that when the litlte guy makes a buck it is so damn problematic but when the corps rape the little guys it is just ok. Viva la Squatters. Maybe it was a bit incoherant as it was early for me. However, I was just trying to expose one particular area where Apple does rule particularly well and which very, very few people know about and that is WebObjects. What can I say, but, for an Internet application developer the combination of Unix/OSX, OpenSource (jFreeChart, mySQL, postgress) WebObjects and Eclipse is amazingly productive, scalable and darn cheap.

It is the only place outside of media/graphics/video/streaming where Apple has an incredible story to tell.

About three or four years ago I had to make a decision about what framework to use to develop a hosted subscription based application. Additionally, I was used to Java, knew how reliable Unix was (well at least Solaris) and was on a tight budget. After looking around I decided to give Apple a try because of WebObjects. I figured if it worked for iTunes it would surely work for our new subscription application. So, I went out and bought a 17" Powerbook, 1st edition. WebObjects back then was around $600 (today it is free). Of course my partners, who are afraid of showing up at a corporation with anything other than Microsoft of course bought a couple of Dell laptops. Well I have to say, I am still writing this on that same laptop, have been all over the cafe's in Chicago, client sites, etc., and have to say that this machine has been incredibly awesome, virus free, rock solid, and incredibly productive. I love the Unix underpinnings. WebObjects coupled with Eclipse has been an incredible framework that has definitely given us a HUGE advantage. We have been rolling out updates, improvements, etc., while people I had interviewed earlier are finally just getting their apps rolled out. Meanwhile, my partners have had to upgrade their "flaky" machines.. now to IBMs and are now experiencing other problemss. Then their is IE... yuk.. always something to code around for that, however, having created our app on OSX makes it work on Safari, IE, FireFox and Opera. So while I don't believe the "sheep" of corporate america will change anytime soon.. I don't mind anymore... as the combination of WebObject, Eclipse, Open Source, etc., has given me and my companies a definite, certifiable advantage. You mileage may vary.

Until countries decide that the central banks are evil nothing will change. This is something that has been a very big issue historically. Most great leaders were killed going against the Central Privately Held Banks. They have complete power and now want complete global control. Only a very, very, brave leader will fight the Central Bank. Here in the US, our late President Kennedy issues US Bank Notes in direct competition with the Federal Reserve. They day he was assasinated they revoked them. This is by far the one issue that completely trumps all others. The central banks are responsible for wars, depressions, murders, and complete financial enslavement. Money may be the root of all evil, but the privately held central banks are pure evil.
