  1. Outlook under Classic on Enterprise CTO Switches to Mac OS X · · Score: 1

What's the big deal? Works >fine on my 450 G4. Have been using it for years and it's great. As for other PC software - anything that won't run ON my machine, I use Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection - just like Term Services session. I routinely work from home and connect via VPN to my PC at work - no one even knows it's a Mac on my end. Oh, by the way, don't buy Macs, PLEASE, whatever you do.

"Not only did it access the network, but I could (assess) both our Windows and UNIX servers with NFS and CIFS from the same laptop. Could this be too good to be true? " Nice to see he puts as much effort into checking his documents for quality as he does his presintashunz. *sigh* It's really sad to see so many painfully obvious spelling and grammar errors on the web. Especially from management... just proves that talent and education is NOT how they got there. Not exactly inspiring.

  3. Oath of Fealty on Ask Larry Niven · · Score: 1

Did you enjoy writing Oath of Fealty and Dreampark? Any chance either of those will become films? I enjoyed both and have reread them a number of times. Very believable characters and good storyline in both! PS - I really wasn't the *least* disappointed to meet in Boulder, CO with Steve Barnes!! Hoping to meet you again!

  4. NASA needs more people, not LESS on More on Columbia · · Score: 1

The truly sad part of the Challenger 'catastrophic disassembly' was this: on first ignition of the SRBs, a huge plume of solid fuel was seen ejecting from a massive leak in an o-ring seal. No one saw this, of course, because the images were taken on FILM! Not processed till later, when it did absolutely no good except to verify why the accident occurred. If ONE PERSON had been watching a -live- monitor, the flight could have been aborted safely. Yeah, let's cut the budget some more, get rid of more staff - that'll help.

Yeah, shut down the space program, all you damn slackers get back to work!!! Champagne is expensive, dammit!!

  5. Getting Traction on Buzz Words, Catch Phrases, and Manager Speak? · · Score: 1

What ever happened to 'are you getting anything DONE?' - 'Getting Traction' always makes me want to check my shoes... maybe get some crampons.

  6. Graphic Designers! Please buy PCs! on Mac vs. PC Digital Photography Comparison · · Score: 1

Really. I'd be thrilled to hear that Graphic Designers were buying PCs... go for it. Buy two - PCs are cheaper y'know.

I've been playing various RPGs with a group of friends since high school. We're all married, have families and careers, yet we still gather regularly. One of our number even works for Wizards of the Coast - who sez you can't make it pay!? :-D

I've always found live RPG with REAL humans FAR preferrable to ANY video game.

    Excellent comment, IMHO.

  8. SPAMCOP works on Jupiter Forecasts 50% Increase In Spam · · Score: 1

Just my two bits - my wife and I finally got fed up with spending more time deleting idiotic noise from people who copied their neighbor's answers in school (read marketeerz) and subscribed to Spamcop. Best money I ever spent - now the mail in MY inbox is MY mail. I just wonder how long it's going to be until some bright someone starts a movement to get ALL advertising OUT of PRIVATELY PAID FOR CHANNELS. Like my email, my phone, my mailbox, etc. Really oughta be a law.

  9. G3/266MHz performance improved on Is Mac OS X Slow? · · Score: 1

After I bought my dual 1GHz tower I put OSX on my old beige desktop G3 and the performance actually improved. Using the Cisco VPN client to connect to work and using the Microsoft Desktop Connection program to reach my Win2000 box works perfectly. Fast and stable. Working from home was never so good - best part: two words - NO PANTS.
