But WHO should say the 'existing software_here' -should- be 'polished/etc'. That way lies danger. Freedom of expression means freedom of expression. Period. If you don't like the way the world is going, cry me a river, build a bridge and get over it. Just because someone isn't contributing to someone else's mythical vision of a perfect world does NOT mean their work is 'wasted'. You may not approve of it, but, oh well.
...the more I learn about Thomas Edision, the more astonished I am. If we'd listened to that raving lunatic, we'd still be using DC in our homes! Thank God someone had the wit to listen to Westinghouse!
It also helps to say 'no' when you're asked to help with an obviously-spam-related project. I've had several prospective clients in the past year ask me to help them harvest email addresses from (I suspect purloined) databases/contact manager files/etc. When I politely refused to help, several got very huffy and demanded an explanation. To which I responded: I don't help people generate SPAM! That seemed to shut them up pretty well.
I *might* consider switching to a PC - if it could run MacOS faster! I love speed as much as the next person, but I love the OS more. I use both daily - and I started out on PCs - the Mac just works... which is what I need. Keeping my wife's 2GHz PC working is a running gunfight. If you subtract all the wasted time patching Windows, all that speed kinda goes out the window.
I love to read this kind of post.
I agree 100% - it's not the TOOL - it's how it feels that influences you. Yes, Intel is faster, but the interface is not something I enjoy using. You've really found the middle ground there! Bravo!!
I have to agree - our house is a mixed bag, two Macs, two PCs. My wife is the PC user and a definite 'average user' - when she got her new M$ mouse with a scrollwheel, she went flat-out bonkers for it.
The 'single button mouse appeals to novices' argument just doesn't hold water.
The Pocket Guide is also great - just what you need when you're trying to remember a specific command. The nutshell book is superb in that it gives you the full tour and touches on all the portions of the OS that the average user AND the super-geeks will use. I also recommend it.
"and the benefits they provided are forgotten."
Not quite - I was a member of the IWW for a long time - finally stopped paying dues when I realized they're not growing anymore. Too much squabbling and internecine warfare from the old-timer hardcores. Great idea tho - One Big Union! No wonder they had Joe Hill shot.
Yeah, right.
I was involved in a labor dispute where it was CLEARLY a hostile workplace (people being screamed at and struck) and there were several employees who stood up, went to a lawyer, got a hearing, fought like hell and lost. No real reason - and the final ruling was 'unjustified'.
This same business has been through three changes of employees since - I don't think anyone at the Colorado Labor Board is losing any sleep over it.
Abusive employers seem to flourish in Colorado... might be the huge glut of job-hungry folks moving here.
Oh my god! YES!! A game that uses the most powerful imaging software on earth >>>the user's IMAGINATION! Clever storylines, some way to tie in multiple users... good grief! Nerds could start meeting nerdettes... it would be almost like... a life... LOL! Seriously - I strongly agree - this kind of game could be HUGE.
In today's age of cut-throat, vicious political animals, I doubt you'll find anyone as courageous as Joe Hill, which is the kind of person you'd need to get people to wake up and realize they DO need unions. Badly.
Yeah, right, start a union, it gets real big, it gets heard, businesses and government get scared, leaders start getting dead, union members start having 'accidents'.
Nope, we had our chance and f-d it up.
Bend over kids, the upper class is on top and they're stayin there.
Of course, they now have a vested interest to KEEP things from falling apart - god forbid the rules ever went away... it'd be open season on the rich. LOL!
Please, don't buy Mac. Ever. You'd probably have a major belief-structure crisis... God forfend any hard-core PC user EVER ADMITTED PC's aren't the BEST AT EVERYTHING.
LOL.
It's slashdot! LOL! I mean... no duh...! LOL! I'll bet if Apple signed a $500,000,000 deal with Sun to directly compete with Microsoft it would get 2 lines. "Apple signs big deal. Steve Jobs very happy."

Worth every penny. I get no spam now. Not one.

Am I confused? I guess I just don't understand the rating system. Must be cause I'm a Mac user.

This is the page that shows the actual comparison.
A 3GHz PC vs a 1.2GHz (albeit dual proc) Mac.
So, even if you add the processor power, the comparison is between a 3GHz PC and a 2.4GHz PC.
How about some more information on the rest of the system hardware? Lots of factors play into this.
The 'single button mouse appeals to novices' argument just doesn't hold water.
Why doesn't Apple consider one? Good question.

Right. Whatever you do, Do Not Buy Macs.
Ever.
Really.

Yep. Like meetings. LOL!!!!!
It just makes him careless - just what we need in upper management.
Heh heh. Be funnier if it weren't YOUR life story... LOL!!!
