DivX/XviD/MPEG are all lossy codecs for natural looking video images. The math above just does not apply if you are thinking of a remote monitor situation. You can already do a remote desktop with Remote Desktop Protocol on Windows XP at 802.11b speeds.

That your graphics card is scanning the monitor at 75Hz doesnt mean that there are 75 frames per second going over the the AGP bus.
Actually if no pixels are chaning in the screen the data transfered through the bus must be close to 0 MB/s.
That's about right. We should be working hard in getting multi terabyte hard disks, 1 Terabyte compact flash cards for less than a buck and so on and so for.
MPEG-4 is a multimedia framework, not a video codec by itself. And MPEG-4 is an ever evolving standard, H26l,H264 or MPEG4 AVC (they are all the same thing) just made it into the standard, and its really good when compared to WMV.
IMHO WMA @64kbits sucks when compared to vorbis or MP3@128 kbits.
I have an ATI Mobility M3 in my laptop and its 8 megs seem to be more than fine. Of course I'm not doing 3D, so I guess that's why I don't need more memory.

MPEG 4 is only an algorithm that has taken years of human hours of R&D put into it. Who is going to pay for that?
