What can we do? Companies only look to the next quarter. Governments only look to the next election. No one in power cares about the big picture or the future of the world.
I believe the point was that most teenagers act irresponsible at least some of the time. If you never did anything out of line when you were a teenager then I think you were in the minority.
I was watching a documentary about teenagers on TLC or Discovery a few months back. They had studies that suggested the part of the brain enables you to predict the consequences of your actions may not develope until the end of puberty . Thus teenagers may be irresponsible becuase their brains are wired that way.
This is not an article about just Miscrosoft. It is an article that offers me a faint glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, greedy mega-corps do not control the entire world.
Will the robots be primadonnas who crack during penalty kicks in extra time? Will they be programmed to roll around on the ground in a dramatic display of bad acting?
Often you'll get a better performance boost out of doubling your RAM than getting a bigger CPU or other hardware. The cost is a lot less aswell so you can buy your self some beer to celebrate your cleverness.
Interesting idea. However, if bad megacorp has lawyers on retainer or staff, how would one determine exactly what it costs to send them to court?

It really bothers me that we reward the makers of such a flawed system by buying their products. How can we expect WiFi to improved if we buy it now matter how bad it is?
Agreed, USENET is a valuable tool. It represents alot of information grouped together. The web, while worderful, is much harder to search.
The problem I see is the lack of new traffic on USENET. Many ISPs either don't offer a USENET feed or it is terribly incomplete or out of date (mine is days behind).
Until you drop one. Hard drives are fragile and people tend to abuse thier PDAs. And what about heat? What we really need to have more work done on solid state drives.
Alas, I'm sure this must by laziness (the bad kind), being cheap and ignorance.
Some sysadmins (I use that term loosely) are simply to lazy to patch up their systems. Some distributers ship their software so that relaying is allowed out of the box.
Companies are to cheap to hire a competent person to watch over their networks.
Some people simply don't know what and open relay is. This is usually due to points 1 and 2.
Scripter, programmer what's the difference? The thought process is the same whether you are using cshell, java, assembler or any other programming tool. This is like saying that speaking another language will make a difference in mathematics.
Alas, for most commutes you'll never convince people to use buses instead of cars. In my experience (Toronto) buses are over crowded and much slower than a car. Hell, a bicycle can beat a bus.
For transit to work people need to be offered a product that is better than their car.
Bigger roads means:
1. More traffic
2. More greenhouse gases
3. More smog
4. More urban sprawl
5. More roads
repeat
Besides, have you seen Metro London? I don't believe there is more room for roads.
I thought the tubes (subway) were already over crowded in London? Shouldn't they increase the capacity of public transit before they force people to use it?
I used to work in the auto industry. The vast majority of a car is subcontracted out by the automaker to non union shops. Many of those shops are not on US soil.
I don't think unionizing is going to help any.
The only way to stop the brain drain is to have it more attactive to produce your product locally. Getting customers to support local businesses is one way but, by and large, the average customer only wants the best price; often because he is already over taxed. Another way is to offer tax benifits to keep jobs local.
Thanks for bringing that back. I had worked hard to blank it out.
Picked up the book a few days ago at my local used book store. So far a good read. Thanks for the tip.
Sorry, had to get that off my chest.

Back in my day we did it with a map and a compass. You tell that to kids these days and they'll never believe you.

I believe they already have one for the demo. You can find it on Gentoo FTP mirrors.

You can have the prettiest, fastest laptop out there but, as soon as the fragile hard drive dies.... You have the prettiest anchor.

Yes, you can legislate them into buses and trains but, that may only last until the next election.

I've said this before, we need to forget about clock speeds. Multiple CPUs that can be added or subtracted based on your needs is a better way.
Go Here for discussion last summer over at Perlmonks.

There's no easy solution.
