I *have* a laptop mouse and use a T40 thinkpad. Unfortunately, being old, one of the USB ports is, at best, iffy. So I have one, and use it for...my mouse! I love the trackpoint if im somewhere and really cant spare the space, but having to use it briefly to give up my mouse is a hassle. 2 usb ports should be the minimum, as well as an ethernet jack. Id *like* a new notebook, but Im broke. this *looks* nice, but i agree, with one usb port id find it mostly a hassle. if i want a small, gimped notebook, ill take the Eee. if i want to spend this kind of money on a notebook, ill take something slightly larger with features i like. its apple. its expensive. its pretty. yay.

A lot of people, it seems, would just as soon buy a new car than a better used car of equivalent value. Granted, you dont find new cars *now* for under 9 grand, but most people are going to finance at that point anyway, and only pay attention to the monthly payment (ask any car dealer how important finding out the max monthly payment is per customer)

Hell, my ex bought an Aveo for $13k. Honestly...nevermind that she could have had a hyundai with 100,000 mile warranty, that was roomier, but she could have bought a used honda or toyota that would be far more reliable over time, or as you mention, a used luxury car (my brother spent $6500 on a used el dorado and its a *great* car, and far better than the shitty Aveo my ex purchased at twice the price)

Certainly, if it were my 9 thousand dollars and a choice between an import indian car made to be cheap, or a used cadillac or quality import...id buy used in a heartbeat.

That doesn't mean, though, that I disagree with you in spirit. I'm concerned that 'sex offender' is too broad of term for this to really apply. I heard a story about a guy who was 19 and had sex with his 17 year old girlfriend.

I went to school with a guy in a similar situation, except this girl got pregnant. Hes married, a nice, clean guy with no other criminal history, but is a sex offender for life because of the age difference that got him a statutory rape conviction.

Granted, its a stupid mistake, but in some cases there's no way it warrants the punishments prescribed.

ignorance is required for a lot of people to stay in business. with knowhow and a few tools you can:

be an electrician, plumber, phone guy, cable guy, pc tech, network guy, carpenter, mechanic...

its probably a long list. the business model is more like "nobody will pay 600 bucks for that tv...that cost us 470 bucks. so lets charge them $499 and make the rest up in accessories they HAVE to have, so it all costs the same, and they dont feel raped about the tv, and we can make a living"

people are cheap. mind numbingly cheap. even rich people can be cheap. if a business could get the electronics sold with a 10 or 15 percent profit the cable prices might be reasonable, but since people barely want to pay, this is what happens.

im not arguing it on either side. everyone wants to pay as little as they can for something, and everyone wants to make *as much* as they can doing whatever they do for a living. thats what i want.

people are cheap, and greedy. you go try to sell electronics in a market where you can get tv's and stereos and laptops at a dozen different places in a single town and see if you 3 dollar cables attract people to pay the extra 25 bucks for your tv so you can still make your profit, and feel good about yourself.

it wont happen. advertising rock-bottom prices on cables isnt going to get you customers, advertising it on a 36" LCD will.
