    Your OIC/SNOIC might have recommended you for a NAM, Meritorious Mast, or a Certificate of Commendation.. But as they were lacking a streamlined computer system to for the processing of those things in the 80's, it was lost in a stack of paperwork, when some Lance Corporal in S1 became a short timer. The big green weenie strikes again!

    Seriously! I'm fine with the occasional light amounts of polish and tweaks, but this is way too much.

    I remember when the big issue on Slashdot was Taco's X key not working.

    Perhaps by "easier to schedule" Tim meant that with trick-or-treaters(kids) or various the costume parties, those of us celebrating Samhain have to figure out how to schedule around those things. :-) Cause, really.. I'm not going to be the one to tell the gf's kids that they can't go out in costume, because "your mommy and I want to go do ritual." :-P

    Can't argue with your point. But given the choice, I'll take the drug cocktail that makes me think I'm talking to god, and I just want to tell everything I know.
    Certainly sounds better than water boarding. It totally sounds like a trip to Di$ney world compared to having some guy drilling out the joints of my fingers.

    Tho between getting caught on the "it's a small world" ride for an hour and water boarding.. That's a tough call.. maybe feeling like I'm drowning wouldn't be that bad in comparison. :-P

    Ooooh! Ok. Thank you for the clarification. When you put it that way, the argument against this makes more sense. I figured for anything I was tagged in, that they'd just remove the tag/link from them.. I hadn't thought they'd remove those posts entirely.

    That's like saying that you choosing not to speak is identical to you preventing someone else from speaking. You actually think those things are equivalent?

    Sorry, I have the derp it seems. I'm not sure how you got to that. If deleting posts or an account is akin to me not speaking.. I don't understand how that would prevent someone else from speaking? Do you mean any comments that other people may have made, in reply? (Not trying to be dense.. please do explain!!)

    I'm trying to compare choosing to manually delete posts made to facebook (which fb retains for whatever reason), with doing the same thing but making facebook not retain the information (one interpretation of this "right to forget"). Aside from where people may have replied or commented on things, I'm not sure how that's affecting someone else. I should probably read some more comments, they might answer that.

        Would choosing to delete/close my account on facebook (or whatever other site) violate the same"right to remember"? How about just deleting all the posts I ever made? The contents of my posts wouldn't be available to others in much the same way.

    In 92-93 high school year, I took the BASIC programming class with my best friend.. we'd been dabbling with BASIC for about 7-8 years at that point (starting with his CoCo3, etc). After the second week, the teacher decided we knew more than what the curriculum was going to cover, so we moved on to playing NetHack for the remainder of the semester.

    Those were valuable skills, that I still occasionally use to this day. Tho I've never actually beat the game. :-(

    I'm starting to hope that Brandon Sanderson (who is also not my bitch) would finish the series, as he is doing with WoT. Lets hope that GRRM leaves plenty of notes behind.

    Seconded! Opted ditch any sort of TV service (antenna, cable, etc) about 9 year ago. When we moved into our current house (6yrs ago), we setup the living room to not include a TV as the focus of attention. Instead, we stuck the old 27" TV up in the spare bedroom, in case we decided to rent any movies (or play the occasional video game). On the up side, we've had to buy several more bookshelves to accommodate our reading habits. :-D

    I had similar ideas, and was mighty pleased at the prospect of not having to mow the lawn anymore. Silly me for not realizing that dad would just repair the cord and send me back on my way.

    I had my revenge later.. seemed the motor didn't fair so well on particularly tall and thick grass. :-)

    I know I'm a bit with the Naive and silly.. I'd like to see all the carriers eventually switch using a common wireless standard/freq/whatever. So that any phone could be used on any carrier. *however* I still say let AT&T have their iPhone "exclusive" deal.. whatever. If you want a cheaper iPhone.. go get an AT&T contract. If someone on Verizon wants an iPhone.. They'll need to pony up whatever zillions of dollars the retail version will then cost. Plus maybe *everyone* can have good coverage.. not just Verizon here, T-mobile there etc..

    Then it's a matter of luring people in with the better plan, or discount on the shiny new toy. Still room for making the better product.

    Or.. apparently I want to move to Europe or something?

    I've been considering going this route, but using one of the VIA C7 mobo's New Egg has listed. I don't need much power for serving up files and the occasional ssh access. I can tell myself that I'll be conserving power.. tho I'm sure having 6 disks spinning may negate some of that. :-)

    Would probably have to use a sata card with one of those boards, but I'm doing that now with an old P2 currently. So no big loss there.

    Didn't Wintermute ring a number of phones, in a bank of pay phones, as Chase walked past it? Later it spoke with the characters over the phone several times, calls that originated from the 'internet' to a land-line.

    Could the fictional realm of the 'matrix' in Neuromancer be considered akin to the internet? Wikipedia claims: "In Neuromancer Gibson first used the term 'the matrix' in reference to the visualized internet."

    Since I quoted wikipedia, I suspect my credibility is gone. :-P

    That's what I'm saying.. if the sensor that was supposed to indicate an impact (or a hole, or whatever) wasn't there anymore (due to an impact or hole etc), then would the ship kow it had been hit?

    I was/am trying to make (a rather feeble) reference to the Hitchhikers Guide actually.. *shrugs*

    I'm doing the job hunting thing now.. and I'd like that to be something my next employer would be cool with (wearing my Utilikilts to work). For now, I'll just settle with a job that pays the bills and doesn't suck the life out of me... The latter being optional too, i suppose.

    I've gotten a good number of friends hooked on this show too. Now if only SeanK would make more (please!). Also, someday (soon we're told) his horror novel(s?) will be online at DarkAtlas.com.. if its anything like the afternow, it should be a good read.
