Of course, it would be ridiculously amusing if AOL suddenly announced that they were switching to Gecko anyway, even though they have a license to use MSIE for free. We can dream, can't we?
I may be being extremely stupid here, but why would they use IE over Gecko. No compliance and the posibility of restrictions vs. W3C compliance and nice shiny open sourceness. The choice seems obvious to me, and however much this $750mill payoff is obviously in order to make them use IE, MS can't legally say that can they? That would be a monopoly.
I have very little background on this, so feel free to correct me, but those are the facts as I see them.
IT hiring in the US is expected to remain flat or decline slightly
Just because people are not being hired in the US does not neccesarily mean the industry itself is going downhill. I know the US is a large chunk, but the IT industry could stage a comeback in the rest of the world while staying flat in the US, couldn't it?
It's of questionable legality to shoot someone who's come into your house in the middle of the night.
I wouldn't think this is equivalent to what the RIAA are doing anyway, but in the UK there's nothing questionable about it. Someone was convicted of murder a few years back for shooting an intruder even though the jury agreed that his house was broken into by an intruder who the "murderer" had every right to believe was dangerous.
And even if they somehow knew you had illegal MP3s, how do they intend to prove what the file under the name "CopyrightedStuff.mp3" was after your HD has been reduced to a smoking mess.
I would love to do so, I really would, but until someone can make it run on the dual Athlon i've just shelled out for I'm sticking with Mandrake. I think that OS X looks amazing, and is in all respects the perfect OS, but I refuse to pay £2000 for less power than I have now on a machine that cost half that.
I know people say that Apple need the (overpriced) hardware market to stay alive, but I'm sure that they could feasably take on Windows, and succeed if they just ported it to x86 architecture.
If we strip the hydrogen out of water to start with, the emissions of water will then refill what we have taken, making a nice equilibrium.
The problem comes with how to power that hydrogen extraction, since it requires energy and we need a clean source to make that energy (and unfortunately many places do not have handy geothermal vents).
(the company is supposedly working on a tablet gadget).
Where did you here about this? I want a tablet, but this looks too pricey for the resolution it gives, and the windows one featured yesterday doesn't meet my needs (I don't mind that the product itself it windows, but i see no reason to install XP Pro on my main boxes when I'm quite happy with Mandrake)
It does indeed contain a browser, this is from the LinuxDevices.com article:
Some interesting capabilities the iPronto can provide, according to Philips, include viewing electronic program guides, selecting media sources, browsing the web, and accessing email.
Anyways. Dont think the majority of the chatter on these forums is really about running linux. It's about using linux as a "legal" front to getting a hacked bios on the box that allows warezed to be played. There are "fair use" backups, sure. You can use linux, sure. But 99.999999% of the posts on the forums are of the nature of "how do u copy renterd gamez?"
You're right, I'm sure, for the sites that this was originally posted on, but I would think that most/. users actually do want to run linux on their Xboxes. It may be a front, but it's a front that benefits alot of us around here (spare computer, multi-use DVD player, file storage etc.) and it'd be unfortunate if people thought that ALL modders simply wanted to playe warez.
"If they applied this tactic to Linux users, imagine the information they could get their hands on."
Anyone using linux is likely to know their way around a computer, so how long will it take for a patch that sends "Stay out of my computer, Bill" to come out?
The article doesn't make this very clear IMO - the personal account is unlimited bandwidth but not for server use. The business account has unlimited uses (web servers, internet radio, etc.) but limited bandwidth (5GB/Month + $3 per GB thereafter).
As the parent post said, after paying for the extra $3 per gig it's still a very reasonable price for 100Mbit fiber and you CAN run a server on the paid bandwidth package.
The article says that an experiment is going on that could find this out, but it is only possible to measure up to 28 billion light years which is most likely too small, even if the universe is finite.

Just watch the computer illiterate masses try to sprinkle processors into their soup.

I didn't say I agreed with the ruling I talked of, I was just pointing out the legalities surrounding it.

Just Buy OS X and get it over with.

They were drinking baileys, what do you expect :-P
Think sodium and chlorine ;-)
Unfortunately I see no reason why the situation with the Firebird database (or whatever it is) should be any different. Anyone care to explain?
Why do people climb the Everest? It's not like they are going to settle there or mine for resources.
