So the result was we sent in armed police and ran all the hippies off. Unfortunately for the local wildlife they polluted the whole area with human waste (shit and piss), and left literally tons of plastic garbage laying about. Oh and delayed construction enough that trains carrying said oil, that could have been sent through the pipeline instead, derailed not once, not twice, but twelve times dumping a halve a million gallons of crude oil on the ground.
Good job hippies. You did the exact opposite of what you hoped to accomplish.
I switched over to LED lighting over 5 years ago and before that fluorescent lighting nearly 15 years ago.
Turning off the lights in my household does diddly squat to my electrical consumption.
Thank God too, I have two women in my household, you would think their fingers were all broken with their inability to turn off lights. Still they'd have to leave a light on for 24 hours a day for a month straight before I would notice it on the bill. About 90 hours straight before it adds 1 penny.
That will be right up until I install the 500 watt inerty system that is going in as part of my new air condition install this fall.
Then it will be zero and the Frenchies can eat a bag of dicks.
" Unless the societies at large address this by adopting systems like universal basic income"
Sorry Timmy but you had a 1.9 GPA. In order to qualify for any kind of social assistance, ie UBI, you have to go see the autoDoc and get the snip snip procedure (Sterilization) otherwise have fun starving.
A no strings attached UBI will never happen even with a very high percentage of automation.
I for one will be using my Flippy robot with a club to run hippies/hipsters off my property rather than to feed them.
Yes that would be why they are called "active volcanoes". As in fiery hot magma is coming out of them. You think active just means they enjoy the outdoors?
Make sure your mom cuts up your food in little bites so you don't choke. (You are stupid)
The anti-gun lobby in places like Chicago reigns nearly supreme.....and the number of children killed with guns in those places leads the nation. Don't give up coming up with a logical argument is hard.
Sound like they need to get their projects on BOINC if they are complaining that they don't have enough GPUs to get things done.
You don't even have to run on their public service. Those guys will set up a local grid computing network for you on all the machines on campus. More than enough CPU power laying around I'm sure.
Not very smart are you. Here let me give you a couple of car examples.
Horses vs car. Cars are way to expensive what a waste of time.
50 years later Cars vs race cars. Race cars are way to expensive, what a waste of time
50 years after that gas powered cars that are faster/better handling than historical race cars vs Teslas (electric cars). Telsas are way to expensive, what a waste of time
50 years after that Teslas vs flying cars.......
To go back to GPUs.
In the short run yeah there aren't too many GPUs to be had because the crypto miners have snatched all them up, and tripled there prices, and want as many more as they can get their hands on. This has resulted in the manufactures pouring buckets of money into more manufacturing capacity and GPU research for faster cards.
Nothing good could ever come from that, believe you me.
It already exists. It is called gridcoin. The POW for Gridcoin feeds the BOINC system which just happens to have the SETI@home project on it along with many other astronomy and science projects.
If you don't know how to change the network setting, remote access a phone, or when all else fails factory reset said phone they shouldn't let you post here.
True it's all the others that she wants. She asks for them now and then, but she usually doesn't like the terms of service: We get all her passwords and she has to give up the phone on demand for inspection. She also knows that the Factory Reset Fairy will visit any phone in the middle of the night that doesn't allow us to login. For the most part she is a really good kid and she stays out of trouble. I think she fears more of us seeing what her friends will post/say/send than anything she is willing to do. I know in time that will change, but by then she will be off to living on her own and not in my house. She earns more and more freedom each year, but she knows the boundaries.
Kids may know about what's cool, the latest slang, or the best killer app for making 5 second videos is, but I'm the tech expert in the house.
She knows if I find anything on her phone that is inappropriate, or my login access get's cut off, it'll meet with an unexpected factory reset while she sleeps. Same goes for the laptop, Alexa, Fire TV, and Xbox.
He who controls the login passwords & network settings controls the world.
Now I'm not a total tyrant. She has access to a smart phone, email, Skype, has her own Origin and Steam account (and yes a nice a gaming rig to go with it), and has access to the internet in general.
I don't buy into that whole idiot parenting method of "ignorance is when a child doesn't know what the parent wants them to know and innocence is when a child doesn't know what the parent doesn't want them to know"
So any topic, any subject she wants to talk about is not off limits (she rolls her eyes every time I point her towards the search bar/Wikipedia/YouTube when she wants to learn about something or when she doesn't (can't get your kid to regularly brush their teeth, make them find you 20 pictures of various types of tooth decay and gum disease and give you a 2 minute report on it), but I'm not going to let the typical idiot children/adults you find there along with the ass-hats in charge of the various social media sites be the ones that teach her.
Right off the bat I wont let the teen (14 girl) have a Facebook account. Lot's of the other parents I know feel the same way. She can text her friends, but has no access to social media of any type. Too many issues to put up with that nonsense.
Myself I'm half ready to bail. Nothing in the feed worth reading anymore. All it took was a few un-follows of friends and a half dozen "this is porn" feedback of suggested news and stories of things that popped up in the feed and it hasn't been updated with much of anything in a while.
Other than a little messaging with friends and a few pictures for the Grandparents I have little to do with Facebook anymore.
You are correct. Its market value would drop a great deal, but its industrial value would shoot up as the price for it would be much more reasonable to use in more mundane things. Turns out Platinum would make great bullets, better than lead and copper, for guns if it wasn't so expensive.
That is exactly what happened to silver, we use it all over the place such as an anti-bacterial coating in drugs, bandages and in clothing (keeps the arm pits from stinking so much.)
I don't think the general crypto currencies are going to survive. Now the ones tied to something, such as Gridcoin, which uses the BOINC research software as the POW will survive as long as there is interest. I can see them basically as way to buy computing time for a project. Nerds provide the processing time and mine coins. The universities/donors can buy the coins to give as rewards for the POW for their projects and the cycle continues. Bare minimum most of use who do the mining were already running the BOINC software for years. The gridcoins just give us another way to keep score on who is crunching the most work.
No such thing. Even things like gold can fall in value due to inflation. Look at the current price of silver, far lower in value than its traditional worth due to copper mining spurred on by electronics. (Lot's of silver to be found with copper.) Also look at the collapse of the Spanish Empire due to all the gold and other "treasure" brought back from the New World that damaged their and other economies which were based on gold.
One of my favorite SiFi books had soldiers abandoned on the planet of the last battle in a war (too expensive to fly them home) so they took to prospecting for gold to make some money. A newbie to the group started tripping over chunks of platinum in a stream the size of golf balls. He got really excited until the others told him they weren't worth anything due to the fact that during the war the other side parked a high % platinum asteroid in orbit next to the ship yards. Every precious metal other than gold had literally the same value as gravel due to this.
What I am looking forward to is all prices for commodities to rush towards zero. A big scrap pile in the backyard and garage sized refiner/3D printer piece of equipment and there will be no such thing as scarcity.
Set a frequency band. Have a few regulations to make everyone to play nice with each other. Let anyone set up equipment to set up equipment to work within those frequencies. Then butt the fuck out.
Sounds like the director was a twat. To start off with fascists were National Socialists. The book the government was more like a futuristic version of 1940-1950's US republic. The main character was Hispanic not white. (Sorry no Nazis in the book) The "military" in the book was vanishingly small compared to the movie. There were something like 30K troopers total. I think in the movie the casualties were over 100,000 in just the first battle scene. Life was so good that you typical civilian (non-citizen) had almost zero clue, since so few served, what it took to keep a civilization (sacrifice of patriots) and were oblivious to the threat from the bugs.
The director probably got his Progressive panties in a twist and stopped ready the book after learning of the concept that Citizenship, and in turn voting and serving in public office, is not just something everyone gets, but has to actually be earned. Of course lets not forget that the citizen culture also considered violence a valid solution to many of life's little problems.

A lot of the really old Sci-Fi was about that. Brave New World you were either an Engineer or you were on welfare (UBI).
People on UBI had about as many rights as the typical house pet. In other words none.
Sorry Timmy but you had a 1.9 GPA. In order to qualify for any kind of social assistance, ie UBI, you have to go see the autoDoc and get the snip snip procedure (Sterilization) otherwise have fun starving.

I could have designed that thing in under 5 minutes in SolidWorks and had it printed up in about an hour and a half.
Companies like this need to fuck off and die.
