"Protected" from who? The State Police mission is mainly traffic related. They also do things that help out sheriff departments and such from time to time. And the state Medical Examiner is part of the state police. But what does the number of troopers have to do with protecting the coast?
I am a fan, and own Farenheit 9/11. But you HAVE TO ADMIT that much of the film is sensationalist, and there are huge debates over the details. But the whole Oregon State Trooper thing was a stretch at best.
The coast is "defended" by the Navy and the Coast guard. The Oregon and Washington coasts are not without defenses.
Yes, I am sure. But perhaps I could have been more specfic (instead of sarcastic) and said that you can't play WMV3 video which is a new WM9 codec that not even the Microsoft WM9 for the Mac will play, nor VLC or MediaPlayer.
I agree, go to a local independent shop. But they are not usually cheaper..:) But that is only considering the sticker price of the service.
One thing to remember is that when you support locally owned and operated business, more of that money stays in the local economy and indirectly offsets other costs (such as tax supported services and infrastructure).
There is always more to the story than just the sticker price. When we WAL-MART our economy to death to save $1 on toilet paper - there is a consequence.
This principle applies as local as you want to get. Neighborhood, City, County, Region, State, Nation...
I have been using Eclipse on my PowerBook 1.5ghz for about 8 months now. Quite nice. Much nicer than the DELL Celeron I gave up.;) Java development is quite nice on the Mac.
Right. Because everyone who has ever worked with / on linux or x86 products is a pure freaking angel.
Grow up moron. All companies are out to $make$ $money$ period. Even the ones that hawk Linux and Linux wares.
If the Mac is a better computer with a better OS you are only hurting yourself. If the PC is a better computer with a better OS then you have made a good choice.
But they all have lawyers, and they all use them, and the ones on top are way way richer than you or I. No matter which computer you buy.
So why do so many support Apple (or Apple products?) Because we use them ourselves. And if more people use Apple computers, more stuff will be made or sold that works with and runs on Apple computers. We win. None of us actually care about how rich Bill or Steve or whoever are getting. We all know they are on top. But in the end I want to use my computer the best way possible, and I support anything that helps me do that...
And you can add memory to the MacMini just like you can a PC, so the "+More Memory" is a little misleading.
Who needs a Parallel or Serial port anymore?
Who needs PS2 ports?
But the main thing to consider is that the MacMini comes with OSX (regular version - not stripped down "home" version) and iLife (I use iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie and iDVD regularly - they are great..)
We won't ever live in a perfect, utopian society where everyone will do the good thing with the information available so how can you not protect it if it is valuable enough to do so?
I don't profess to know a solution. But, for the most part, the people who want to do bad things with the information will get the information no matter how you protect it. The protection only hurts those who would use it for the greater good.
Copyright, although I even use it myself, is basically rediculus. But when in Rome...
Before we had Intelectual Property laws and things like the DMCA and RIAA and MPAA and all that junk - the greatest minds might have been gone, but their knowlege lived on.
Now things are hidden or destroyed as "trade secrets" or destroyed by the government for "national security" or owned and controlled by companies for profit.
This makes it harder for new scientists and thinkers to not have to re-invent the wheel, because for them the wheel is off limits or too expensive to be able to learn from...
I have a PowerBook 1.5 ghz with OSX 10.3.7 sitting next to a Dell 2Ghz Pentium 4 with WinXPPro SP2. Both machines have 1GB Ram, the Mac has a 5400Rpm drive, and the PC a 7200.
I have no idea what "lag" you are referring to, they both work the same for me. That is AFTER I turn off the animation effects in WinXP (those induce hella lag).
I am seriously wanting to experiment here, if you can pick where you notice it the most it would be helpful.

Perhaps the most insightful post in a long time. Damn, twice today I have needed Mod points. I'll get them next week at a time when there are no good stories.:)

Beaverton is just another Boring Oregon City.
Oregon CNIC info.
Beaver, Oregon
The best part is the "Beaver Locator".
DHS is Oregon's largest branch of government (or second maybe), and they use very little open source. Here are their "standards".
Other state agencies probably have theirs posted as well...
That war is not secret, and has been going on for a long time.

do Macs support torrents natively
Yes.
Most of Slashdot readers weren't born yet in 1984.
There is, but it is in WM9 which doesn't play on the Mac. :)

And Apple is cool.
Mac stores are cool. In Portland, OR we have a great one called MacForce. They rock....
How about:
- Larger
- Louder

Maybe people are cold, and need the extra "flamebait" to keep warm? Trying to catch a fire?

I think it's a shame that there's no digital audio output . . . There probably are USB-addon solutions to this problem though

How is this flamebait? It's a joke. Hint: look at the third paragraph, and read it again.
Isn't 160mm = 16cm? That's a big fingernail....
Is there an OSX tool for graphing sentences? ;)
