I think this highlights the fundamental difficulty we face in getting elsewhere in the universe, namely the difficulty of getting enough energy to move stuff around.
There is a bigger difficulty, the one of getting enough impulse. But unlike the energy problem, it's solvable by the space elevator and to a lesser degree by nuclear engines. With chemical rockets, the fuel is both source of impulse and energy. To be a good source of impulse to overcome gravity, the fuel should compise a significant part of the rocket. Fix that, and you'll be amazed how much more can be achieved in space.
You might care because if most people are using a different browser, web developers may target it specifically and leave you with a less satisfying experience.
It works the other way too. Sometimes you would get a better experience if your browser is not specifically targeted. It all comes to the intentions of the web developers, who may be looking for better ways to annoy their users rather than to placate them. That's why I have konqueror installed, although I cannot stand it for regular browsing.
It would be more useful for him to have an address like ErikSchmitt@yahoo.com. Then the e-mails having "Erik" in the first line could be classified as spam.
That's only in theory. In fact, very few architectures are supported, and x86_64 is not one of them. I tried to port Wine (just the library) to x86_64 recently, but it turned out to be a lot of work and even required knowledge of assembler (for such things as "atomic compare and exchange"). Volunteers are welcome!
"Splitting hair", if done persistently, could be actually useful to correct the language used by BBC and other media. That, in turn, could change perception of those unwashed masses who being scared by the media tales about "hackers" and "pirates" lurking on the "information superhighway". Maybe some congressmen/MPs will get a few more questions about their role in passing DMCA and similar obnoxious laws.
I'm disappointed that BBC calls downloaders pirates. The term "pirate" when applied to copyright infringement first appeared to denote publishers who didn't pay the authors. They were likened to high sea pirates because they intercepted some of the money that the author could have received, like pirates who intercept goods in transit. Those who bought books from "pirates" were not called "pirates". To continue this analogy, only uploaders but not downloaders could be called "pirates" because it's they who competes with the original publisher. Of course, it would still be an overkill to liken an occasional file sharer to a publisher who did business on someone else's work.
Also, code taken from the kernel to other projects is not fine. IANAL, but I guess it means that Linux itself cannot be distributed under GPL, because GPL doesn't allow any limitations on the right to reuse the code.
The free "nv" driver is single head only, but you can choose which head to use by using the CrtcNumber option. To support dual head, the driver should call xf86SetEntitySharable(), which it doesn't do yet, perhaps for a good reason.
Imagine explaining your phone that your girlfriend dumped you for a guy with a better phone, so you don't need to buy her any gifts. Your phone may be very unhappy to learn about that.
Can anyone please explain what is wrong in that comment? While iPod turned out to be a huge success due to marketing, I don't think Apple addressed those issues (wireless support and more space than competing products).
Until I see successful Green or Libertarian governors and congressmen, I'm not going to vote for them in presidential elections. While it is true that the electoral college is a major obstacle for third party candidates, there is no such obstacle for elected offices other than the President of the United States.
There is a/slight/ difference in
costs between 62 Miles, and 62,000 miles.
Sure, but the 62 miles elevator will be more
expensive because it will have to be made out of
extremely stiff materials, such as diamonds or
ceramic used in Rado watches.
The 62000 miles elevator can be flexible because it will
be stretched by the Earth rotation.
You are missing the point. Bochs is free software. Running Bocks on another platform (PocketPC) is an achievement of free software. It's not so important what operating system runs in the emulator. Actually, the fact that Bochs is good enough to run an close source, buggy OS only underlines the quality of PC emulation in Bochs. I'm sure Bochs will easily run other OSes as well.
Maybe you also have an URL for Duke Nukem Forever?

You'll have to move to Soviet Russia for that.

Using the word "piracy" for downloading or acquiring copyrighted material, as opposed to copying it.
As for the rest of your comment, you are making wrong assumptions about my position. Unfortunately, it happens on Slashdot all the times.

I believe it's Gordon Matzigkeit. He worked on GNU Hurd, and the only bootloader supporting GNU Hurd is GNU Grub.

Melting people's faces is bad. Melting political opponents' faces is awesome. Because, honestly, they're political opponents.

Thank you. The URL of the open source driver for iFP is actually http://ifp-driver.sourceforge.net/
