The chess-benchmark is ALSO flawed. He doesnt optimize compiling, only linking. With a normal -o2 compile, the athlon system gets more then 290 Knodes per second

Some of the other synthetic benchmarks also show slighly suspicious anomalies. Plus were are the Nocoma 32bit benches? How are we supposed to see how performance improved in 64bit mode without comparison?
A good review would have pitched the 3.6Ghz nacoma vs an Opteron 150, would have tested both in 32 and 64 bit and tried to use some application benchmarks.

Yeah, very likely, because the prescott only needs 30W more than my athlon and the geforece is driven by the 12V rail. My 8 drives need about 80W more during spinup than they need during normal operation, so there is enough left to power the card (which only needs 45W more than my Radeon) after they are running. And during bootup while the drives are spinning up the geforce is in power-save modus with reduced clockrate, so it shouldnt matter.
And not everybody with a Prescott/Geforce 6800 setting has 8 HDs...
Why should a slower drive improve if a faster doesnt? Even the faster one is still 10000 times slower than memory access. And why test the 10k rpm drive instead some cheapy? Simply because someone who want performance and has a brain would use a FAST drive to start with.
Well, but you dont considere the fact that the new 250GB drive would almost certainly be a lot faster than the 2*60GB raid. Higher STR per head, less seek movements becasue of more TPI, more/better cache, ect.

A 3.6GHZ Prescott with a NV40 and 2 GB ram draws about 220W from your PSU. So NOBODY needs a 500W PSU for a single cpu system, even if he has 10 discs or so.
In fact some of the "bigger" psus have so little rating on their 12V lines that downgrading can help. My old 420W psu wouldnt boot with 8 drives, only with 6. My new 350W has no problems whatever...
But then again: If the data is nonrelevant, do you need the added str? If not, why needlessly jeopardize the data by going raid 0 instead of just using them as 2 single discs. (and that MOST of doom1/2 and quake 1/2 had only 4-5 monsters at once, and only a handfull of rooms had more than 10. Because of simple balanceing: if 10 enemys dont kill you if they are in the same room, they cant be much more than cannonfodder. and mowing down cannonfodder isnt really thrilling)
