I remember that Trumpet Winsock was written by an Australian company for use with Win 3.1. So even that wasn't written by MS.

I know exactly how you feel. Within a week of owning my black sports car some stupid woman opened her door into mine and made a huge dent in it. Later a branch fell on it, a golf ball bounced off the roof leaving a nice dent, someone keyed one side. Several other things have happened to this car that never happened to the others I owned for far longer. Do they attract disaster?
I've not head this before but would it not be like the xbox locked hdd system? Obviously it would be a lot harder to unlock the old drive before removing it and almost impossible once its removed.

Look at the time span the Bene Gesserit were working with, many thousands of years and they still didn't get it right.

Behind these holes there is a filter. Every HDD I've ever seen has these holes and if you haven't seen one then look again.
