Haha. So, you've obviously tried it, with repeated, positive results? The kernel ABI is pretty much irrelevant. Good luck getting an app from 1998 to run without setting everything else up (essentially a chroot environment for it).
quake 3 is from 1999 and still runs fine on my modern linux distros...
When I travelled to Japan last year, a customs officer asked me if I had any illegal (uncensored*) porn. They had a full picture book with photos of illegal items you could not bring to the country (firearms, drugs, porn, etc) In the porn case they had a couple of pictured some porn DVD covers LOL
* As you may know, Japanese porn has censoring over the genital area...
I agree with this idea...

The rest of the world calls us some form of "Amerika" in their own native languages, so why can't we?
AFAIK only in Japan they call the USA Amerika ( in katakana), the rest of the world calls you "Unites States" translated to their native tongues.
"Estados Unidos" in spanish and portuguese speaking countries,"États-Unis" in french
"Vereinigte Staaten" in german ones.
Well yes and no.
Just the other day on/. everybody was complaining that an early adoption of an Ubuntu release was fraught with problems, my first week with Ubuntu confirmed that for me...
So this comparitive test does not really lend Ubuntu an unfair advantage, if it were done with Hardy a bit matured one would be able to say that... same thing with suse and mandriva... to be fair with the other distros, he should have reviewed suse 11 (soon to be released) and mandriva 2008.1 (released last month)
They also messed around with the "typing" notification, moving it from the tab/window pane to inside the IM text.
It gets really annoying when you're trying to read a message that was just sent to you, and suddenly the text is shifted up a line because the person on the other end just started typing.
I joined in on a bug report regarding the notification, asking for a configuration option to be created so that the previous style could be used.
No response from the authors yet. +1
Im using 2.4.1 right now and for me, the new typing notification is even more annoying than the autoresize thing...
not that I would mind a bigger text input box...
saldy, Pidgin is the only IM client that I find usable...
Lately, every time I see a new linux "feature" (or whatever) announcement on/. some asshole tries to be smart and says "Linux never will make the desktop because is lacking on blah blah blah..."
Well, I have news for you, the only ones that wants "Linux on the desktop" are RH/Novell/etc... The average Linux user could not care less about Joe Sixpack and Grandma using linux, windows or OSX.
And this are the same people that are running linux at the desktop 24x7 NOW, and don't care about Linux taking over the world. They just want Linux to improve, as it has been doing since I can remember.
So, next time some news about Linux appears on/. , please STFU
Btw, my Mom and little brother are using linux and they dont even know the difference. Could they have installed it and configured it?, probably not, but they probably can't install windows anyway...
As far as I am concerned, having rolled it out to a thousand and a few people, although it scales quite well, the fact that you have to pay per user per month for federation out to the other networks (AOL/ICQ, Windows Messenger, Yahoo!) I think Jabber is a much better option. It's what they run internally at HP.
and at EDS too.
IBM runs their proprietary Lotus Sametime IM though...
Meets all requirements from the OP.

+1 on "The man from earth"
Excellent movie.
Notice that IBM is not going with Chrome, though it is a faster and better browser for the moment.
As stated before, IBM wants to build a stable linux environment to eventually replace windows internally, and the chrome port for linux sucks ATM.
Also, IBM started testing Firefox for internal use for over 4 years now, when chrome didn't even exist.
That is why they went with Firefox.

Comes with a 2 port E-SATA II PCI-e 1x card (SiI3132 based), nice power supply and big cooler. Supports RAID 0 / 1 / 3 / 5 / 10 / JBOD / Port Multiplier.
Not bad for $200.
Can we stop with the knee-jerk microsoft bashing?
No.
