My x86 box is an Athlon XP 1800 with 1GB DDR and a 40GB drive split evenly between Win XP Pro and Red Hat 9. Win XP on this machine boots easily twice as fast as Red Hat 9. And by boot, I mean the desktop is fully loaded and ready to use (both machines auto-login). Even after disabling all of the non-essential things being started by Red Hat's default install, the Win XP machine still boots faster, although by much less. Then again, I don't have any extra crap (tray applications, typically) starting up with Win XP besides AIM.

And even though its Linux, some of us turn our machines off after using them, so boot time does matter. ;-)

Then I began receiving quotes even lower than this, and eventually settled on a contract at $6500/mo for the full DS3. And these weren't unknown providers--Level3, Abovenet, Sprint, and XO were a few of the companies that provided us quotes. To put these prices in perspective, I worked at a local internet provider back in 1997 that was paying almost $35k/mo for their DS3.

So, I don't know where you got your numbers, but my actual recent experience says that bandwidth prices have fallen pretty dramatically in the last several years.

There are already plenty of independent labels out there that treat their artists nearly as well, if not just as well, as this new label. The real problem is, like the OP said, that switching labels is practically impossible because of the extensive contracts artists have to sign to begin with. So while this label may attract many good artists, there is a definite problem with it being able to attract any mainstream talent.

What is the point/benefit of doing this, as opposed to just installing Debian? Seriously. It seems like quite a task to "side-grade" Lindows to Debian, so why not just stick with Debian to start?

So it's Apple's fault that the stores in your area don't have sufficient stock? Somehow, the 3 stores (2 Best Buy, 1 Frys) I just checked here in Vegas all had the 10GB and the 30GB. And scores of places online have all three models. It sounds to me like the 10GB model is very popular in your area and that stores there haven't quite adjusted their buying to reflect that. Regardless, I fail to see how lack of stock in your area means that Apple only wants to sell you the most expensive one and screw you otherwise. Hi, my name is Pat, and I love Nextel the way you do Sprint.

I used SprintPCS for about 3.5 years up until late last year. My only major gripes with it were call quality and a major customer service snafu that ultimately led me to cancel my service with them. I switched to Nextel, and have never been happier with a cell phone. Instead of having a phone with games and Internet, I have a phone that lasts longer than a day on the battery, never ever breaks (something all 4 of my Sprint phones could never achieve), and is built like a brick without being heavy or bulky (yet another gripe with 3 of my 4 Sprint phones). Beyond that, the call quality compared to Sprint is so much better its hard to describe. The first time I used the Nextel phone for an actual call, I was so surprised I had to call 3 or 4 other people to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

As with everything, but seemingly moreso with cell phones, YMMV (and does, obviously). You can now say you've met someone that says "Yeah, my Nextel? This thing is GREAT!"...

The real guys working on KDE and Gnome and such aren't out to make a buck (although that is a perk for a select few), but are out to make a better product for themselves--and anyone else that wants to use it. Now, I realize that companies after that lucrative buck have jumped in and done a lot of work to improve desktop Linux to where it is today--but so what?
