    This is the best named worm i've ever seen. When I first read headlines about it they said things like "witty worm attacks firewall." It took me a while to realize that was the name of the worm and not a judgement by the reporter (no I didn't read the articles)

    It would be better if they just charged the regular 15 bucks a year or whatever. Then they could just make rules that if you used the domain to send spam you lose the domain. This is what they were already going to do when charging $2000. The price tag isn't going to stop any spammers but it will stop some legit people from getting a domain.

    The whole thing is SOOO silly. Who cares if its called a planet or not. The universe doesn't differenciate between the two. Theres just stuff floating around in space...without a name. The human race has become far to obsessed with naming things. Why can't we just experience the universe directly without the interference of sybols and concepts.

    This assumes we care about the survival of the human race. But why should we care? When it ends it ends. There is no life without death. If the species survives forever then the survival of the species loses its value.

    Economics is a circular thing. That being said i'm not to happy about any of this. I would much rather just sit here on earth under a tree next to a lake and contemplate my existence. Preferably on mescaline or LSD.

    And by the same token I don't see why there would be more people wanting to file frivolous lawsuites in a given region. I think the situation isn't as bad as you hear people claiming. But the drug and insurence companies that are running the whole thing as a business instead of trying to save lives want protection. The tort reform legislation that was stopped in the senate by the democrats wasn't just about protecting doctors. It would have protected drug companies and medical device manufacturers as well. They have plenty of money to pay to someone who has a legitamate claim and i dont want to see that limited. Really the whole idea that there should be limits means we dont have faith in our jury system to decide who should get money and how much. If this is the case then how can we trust them to recomend death sentences or convict murderers?

    Actually that was a different bet between Thorne and Hawking which Hawking conceded to Thorne years ago. It was a bet on whether Cygnus X1 was in fact a black whole. Hawking bet it wasn't and Thorne bet it was. Hawking said he really did think it was a black hole but he wanted to win something if he was wrong so as to be less depressed about it.

    Another possible problem could be confirmation emails when you sign up for a mailing list or message board or something. This would be even more dificult to tell from spam than newsletters. Also you have no way of knowing the email address it will come from to add it to a whitelist.

    As much as I wish the law was as before, when copying for no profit was legal, this is no longer the case. Stupid laws are still enforced unless they are somehow unconstitutional. Unless you can make that arguement these cases will no be thrown out because of the stupid law they are using nor for the fact that the RIAA lobbied for it.

    Oh come on lets get real. How would the riaa NOT win? They may get a few cases they lose but the vast majority they will win. They aren't trying to sue inocent people. They sue those that share alot of music. I'm not saying I agree with the RIAA's tactics. I even think the sharing of copyrighted music should be legal, but under the current law the riaa will win the suits.

    You know its very interesting. This has just gotten released into the regular warez scene. Some group pred it on a bunch of sites. its called Windows.2000.Source.Code-iND. But anyway, i requested it be sent to a site im on. Imediatly one of the siteops said, "if that request is filled, i'll seriously leave." many others agreed with him. It seems at the very top of the scene, in the irc channel im in, curries and siteops are making a moral arguement NOT to move the source. When I asked what the big deal was, the siteop responded, "think about it, by downloading that you think its okay for people to search through it to hunt down ways to fuck people over." So anyway i was just facsinated by the sudden display of morals in the warez scene.

    This is exactly what people mean when they say there should be software deversity just like there must be diversity in a species for it to survive. Now what M$ should do is just opensource it so they can fix all the bugs that will be found (if anyone is willing to help them fix them)

    Yes but thats just another step in linux to execute a file. Its equivalent in windows is just double clicking. But if a user intended to open a file (as windows users that open execute virus attachments do) they would just chmod +x before they run. Its not like the windows user is opening by accident. They do it on purpose...wrongly thinking it is from the email admin.
