What bother me is the its the complainers fault because they don't like sexual jokes or whatever. Why is it so hard to keep it clean around women
Why should you have to? If women are no different than men, as so many love to claim, then why do they need special consideration? Are they the same, or are they delicate flowers who need to be protected from the big bad world, the eeeevil mens, and naughty words?
Only one of those options is compatible with the concept of "equal," by the way.
So today's lesson keep it clean and you wont get fired and don't make complaints public so ya don't get fired either.
Standardization is good, even when standards come from Microsoft
Not when the standards are incomplete, and the missing parts are kept locked up, like what happened with OOXML. Then you get "standards" without interoperability, which removes every benefit of the standard for everyone else while giving the crafter undue influence because of it.
He was "just a fucking guy who marketed technology to the mundanes."
And the truth is that he was a genius at that. No, he wasn't "innovative", he sure as hell wasn't "a visionary," but he did succeed at selling what were "geek toys" to hipsters, who are always willing to pay a premium.
MP3s, tablets, smartphones: they were all around long before Apple made its "contributions" to the market[0] , and usually done better, but they never got sold to the "Any Key" crowd.
So let the Followers of Jobs have their worship. Even if they are just worshiping a marketroid, he was a good one.
[0]Newton was an exception, in that it was very, very much a geek toy and was a flop.
In defense of the "no smoking in public" bans, the point of that wasn't stopping people from smoking, but stopping people's smoking from affecting others
That's not a defense, it's an excuse. If there are as many people who don't want to eat in a cloud of smoke as trot out their support of the government-imposed ban, then clearly, a restaurant that chose to not allow smoking could do rather well for itself.
The same goes for the opposite.
And if there aren't enough of either group to make their choice viable for the restaurant owners, well, that's what the range in the kitchen is for.
That's not true, at all, but there seem to be two groups that espouse that view more than others.
The first is the big production houses that are basically turning AAA game development into Hollywood 2.0. They believe that games aren't any different than other artforms, so the best course of action is to keep churning out safe, over-produced, flash-over-substance retreads. Most clearly exemplified by EA.
The other group is the "games as art" group, who are quickly converging to the snooty pretentiousness of their more traditional counterparts. The sort of people who refer to "The Path" as "captivating", "beautiful", and, probably most obnoxiously, "a promising sign that gaming is starting to grow up," while completely ignoring the fact that the entirety of the gameplay is summed up as "Walk. Then walk some more until you see some ostensibly creepy tableau in the woods. Gaze at your navel for 20 minutes. Walk again." Their patron saint is Extra Credit[sz].
Parent post misses the same fact that both of these group miss: games as a medium are interactive. They need to do all the work of previous artforms, and then some. On top of "storytelling merit", "characterization", "deeper meaning", and whatever other arthouse jargon you want to throw into thebowl, there still remains a common requirement for a good game:
Games are interactive. They have to actively engage the player. This is something not required by parent's "books, TV, movies, or going to a fucking art gallery."
Since my genuine question wasn't answered, but was modded down, (doubtless by some Stallmanite zealot) I'm just gonna go ahead and assume that's a "No."
Not exactly a great example of the GPL's "robustness" there.
They want to show that they have "solved" the problem and that it will not happen again, by letting a manager walk.
I'll buy that when an EA game comes out without some kind of odious DRM or Yanked-From-The-RTM DLC.
Yeah, Riccitello was a hypocritical shithead who should have been shown the door a long time ago, and now I'll have to keep an eye on where he ends up next so that they can go on my no-buy list too, but you've got to be remarkably naive to think we're going to see any huge "change in direction" from EA.
I doubt that most of the developers of free ad-supported Android apps have a problem with Google removing these kinds of programs.
True, and the ad networks probably don't have a problem with tracking cookies, exploiting technical and legal loopholes, spam, or "impressions" that come from malware and rootkits.
I agree that the OS itself should be open, but I don't see why the store run by Google has any responsibility to be 'open'
It doesn't have a "responsibility" to, but it was a "feature" that got whipped out pretty often in the mobile OS holy wars.
Now that they've got the lion's share of that market, it looks like they don't have many qualms about tearing out features at the expense of users, in the name of their "grander vision". The abhorrent redesign of the app store into a cluttered mess of mass media kruft; crippling or outright omitting external storage to push this "cloud" garbage; and now this.
Most people won't go around other android stores or internet sites searching for software, they're fairly happy with google play.
One has to consider that part of the reason they're happy with play store (as crap as it is after the 'upgrade' from Android Market) is that google wasn't pulling crap like this. We've been touting it as an advantage over the iphone since day one.
Yeah, they can always sideload it or get it from aptoide or amazon or whatever, which makes pulling it from Play seem even more pointless.
This just has a disturbingly fruity, Cupertino-esque smell about it. Kind of like removing USB Mass Storage support for SD cards.
Can't blame you there. The next big one that completely changed the mechanics of the game was the one that really pissed me off. You can't resurrect if any member of your team is in combat now. Lots of fun fun happy downtime for all.
Sorry, but no, it's exactly what happened, and the "participation" angle was ducked by the "fast tracking" process.
This is all documented.
Yes.
No. That is why one should.
It's not respect if it's mandatory.

I'll just leave this here here.
Holy shit, Poe's Law just hit me like a truck.
Men CANNOT be sexist against Women. Sexism is a position of the oppressor who has the power.
FTFY. It's still a mind-meltingly idiotic definition, but at least it's more in line with reality. Take a look at the laws sometime.
Tell that to... well, every major OS, since they still don't seem to grasp that Tablets and Desktops are different hardware.
That's what made it so believable. "Stupid" is the order of the day.

Not when the standards are incomplete, and the missing parts are kept locked up, like what happened with OOXML. Then you get "standards" without interoperability, which removes every benefit of the standard for everyone else while giving the crafter undue influence because of it.
Let's be fair.
He was "just a fucking guy who marketed technology to the mundanes."

[0]Newton was an exception, in that it was very, very much a geek toy and was a flop.
I'll just mention the OOXML clusterfuck, and refrain from commenting on "stupidity" and "glass houses."
Why not? By agreeing to get married in the first place, a man is already demonstrating that he's capable of that.
"I believe this is not an utterly foolish decision and that it aligns with my long-term well-being and self-interest."
And I don't think we need any examples to demonstrating the silly shit women will eat up. We have the OWN channel for that.
Pretty sure that was just another ass-pull retcon for some manufactured "drama" in the prequels.
That might have been true before advertisers put themselves on the same operating level as malware.
Might have been, but I doubt it.

What a fucking tragedy that would be.
Seriously, she's kept that house all her life, how dare anyone take exception with her being forced to sell it against her will?!
I mean apart from academic curiosity, who does give a fuck if the fault should be blamed on Linux or on Chrome ?!
The Brand-tribes have to know so that the guilty tribe can sacrifice a virgin[0] to the volcano gods.
[0] obSlashdot: Insert slashdot "virgin" joke of your choice here.
Did they ever straighten out that whole linking ambiguity?

Yeah, but most of those have actually been *good* reasons. Malware and the like. This one's just self-serving.
Most people won't go around other android stores or internet sites searching for software, they're fairly happy with google play.

What's so bizarre about it?
They basically said "corporate profits trump human rights." Not exactly Lewis Carol there.
At least it gives us Americans something to return fire with when Europeans start getting all smug about our thriving proto-fascism.
