Have the GIMP devs pulled their heads from their (respective, I hope) colons and backtracked on the stupid "save as xpf regardless of original format" decision? If not, then I offer that up as exhibit A that the progress you're speaking of is actually moving backwards.
No, you're on the internet. Don't confuse that with the web, please. I know/. has gone downhill over the past decade or so, but it hasn't reached AOL-ness yet. Let's not help it along, shall we?
He didn't say "interest," he said "interconnectivity." If you've got a wordpress install in a back room somewhere, with no links coming in, making it some sort of wiki "orphaned page" analog, then it really doesn't make sense to consider it part of the web.
Meritocracy sounds great on paper but is terrible in terms of social consequences. It allows entrenched elites to stay entrenched and over time, removed generational mobility.
Gods, you make me miss Slackware. If I was actually still a full time admin and had time to manage keeping packages up to date that way, instead of dividing my time across a dozen hats, that would be my first change...
this is ridiculous. we need to give the guy some credit. he has invested millions of his own money into this distribution and so far it's been like a sink in his wallet. he's not going to keep pouring cash in until he's broke. ubuntu has to start making money at some point.
If the only way for Ubuntu to "start making money" is with evil shit like this, then no, we don't need to give him any "credit". Better that the project dies, than it lives on as malware.
They've burned any reasonable trust they'd built with this crap, and the only sane course of action is to "abandon ship." You don't come back from the abyss.
If "you'd rather keep private" or "rather not do it with [co-stars]" then... don't take the job.
YOU might not prefer to do porn, but that says nothing about anyone else, so the "difference" is entirely in your mind, and is no grounds for bullshit laws.
All of which is absolutely useless if you consider that the most common use case for LTS is for servers, and "wipe and reinstall" means a lot more downtime than would be necessary if the upgrade process wasn't utterly braindead.
THAT is the viewpoint that I don't understand and can only be supported by sociopaths.
Or people who managed to pass high school biology and recognize that that, once you take out the "soul" bullshit, an undifferentiated mass of cells is no more a "baby" than a toenail clipping.
No, I don't think he did. this post has some legitimate examples of Bowdlerization on the Wii.
1/10
But what's its density?
What would it take to jump-start the formation of a magnetosphere, anyway?
How many generations of mosquitoes are born every summer?
You're wrong.
Period.
Done.
Over.
Fini.
Yet their crap has never been foreshadowed by explicit comments to the contrary
Umm... yeah. Not like it was posted a half-page up or anything...

But the idea is to have a single interface for tablets, computers and *phones*.
So that brings the idea from "wrong" into "brain-fucked stupid."
Why am I reminded of Star Trek?

So, basically what the US has now, then.
I don't suppose Mint has/plans to have a server edition anytime soon?

Touch-typists rarely look at their keyboards.
You can look at your keyboard?!

And the vast majority seem to be outside the union of those two sets.

I never bothered going from version to version since way back when they said the best approach was a wipe and reinstall.
I can say this though: Ubuntu's attitude as of Precises still seems to be "Fuck you if you're going from LTS to LTS."

Insane government is an oxymoron. One cannot have a sane government
That would make it a redundancy, and "sane government" the oxymoron.
Other redundancies:
Automotive transportation
Ideological Zealot
Scumbag Politician
Software error (*g*)
Other oxymorons:
Jumbo Shrimp
Sound of Silence
Microsoft Works
GNOME Usability Experts
I don't think Alanis Morisette nor too many of her fans read slashdot, but thanks anyway. :)

Not sure if photographer jargon, or suggestion of violence... </fry>
