    i think it is not all free software goes now in government control that he aproves
    i think the government should support (local) software projects it can use in its administration
    maybe mozilla could be a project, or a ultra secure linux (desktop) distribution , free tax declaration (or what ever you call it) software, secure opensource software for voting machines, office software etc.
    i don't think the got should take over those projects (except the voting machine), but they could commit one developer or a whole team to a project
    or they could just help to fund some projects
    maybe they could even make a vote which projects to support

    do you get lightstep with windows on the same disc?
    linux is delivered with kde often
    kde is not part of linux but that is not important because if you buy SuSE linux you get KDE with it and you will install it per default
    KDE on windows??? i never saw this.. if you like to enlighten me please post a link

    it is not an over!
    best you can hope for is an equal
    is it your fault you are weak?
    is it your fault your parents were weak?
    is it your fault you not going to be employed because they don't like how your face looks?
    why do you think the strong is not there to protect the weak
    would you honestly think the same if you were weak???
    is it inmoral for a man to protect his wife or his child?
    why should it be inmoral for a society to protect its weak??
    instead of beeing proud of their homeland the people should be proud to protect the weak, feed the poor

    i think there is a problem
    if i remember right the language etc of .net is open but the librarys you use for ms .net are not
    that means you cant just recompile a program writen with the ms librarys on mono
    maybe someone could correct me if i'm not right :p

    hmmm
    i live in Switzerland a country with social market economy and i am very happy with it except that there are politicans that try to cut the system from every edge to the benefit of the people with earnings over 80'000$
    free market will never work out because it's just anarchy
    Communism as the americans understand it is a dictatorship and dictatorships are will never be good
    i think democratic communism could work out very well

    i think what IBM, Redhat and all the other linux distributors should make clear that it is soon enough to buy SCO Unixware or linux or what ever licences when SCO has proven their statments and/or there is a pro SCO judgment
    in germany Linuxtag e.V. has achieved interim injunction (or what ever einstweilige verfugung is in english) against SCO that prevents them from spreading their FUD in Germany german article

    the problem is pure capitalism is not possible
    as pure communism is not possible
    i have a very hard time with imagine something pure with humans involved
    it's all the mix
    with it's monopoly Microsoft is protecting it self very good and it would be the govts job to prevent them from abusing their power (monopoly)
    this abuse is at the same time a symptom of pure capitalism and a sign of it's destruction
    the problem is that "pure" capitalism is not self-purifying
    you have to keep it "pure" and this makes it unpure at the same time

    there are other things to share then porn and mp3's
    you ever did teamwork?
    or do you prefer to run around with a floppy and collect documents?
    and mail is no solution for this if you like to know what your teammates do

    yeah ... you can't just hit delete ...
    90% or more of my spam is identified just by reading the subject and the senders address
    i don't think someone payd $60/hr is working at a computer that has over 30 seconds to open a message =)))
    one look at the message disqualifes the other ~8% of the spam
    before i start reading a message i go over it just looking for the topic and who was writing this message
    if this takes someone over 30 seconds you should reconsider his wage (especially if it's over 60$/hr)

    why not just write a free opensource replacement for the things not working correctly on windows???
    maybe it has not to be a replacement
    i could think of a windows server which is acting as a proxy between the windows and the linux network
    something like the ximian connector does for exchange

    if you buy a gun from a legal source which says it is good to shoot peoples but you are not shooting on humans
    do you think you are doing something illegal??
    would you have to prove you don't shoot peoples with this guns??
    would a human rights organisation be able to sue you because of this???
    i would say the answers to all those questions are no
    i'm pro gun control and just chose this example because i know how sensitve americans react to gun control issues
    i could have just made the same statement with a kitchen knives i try to sell and promote for murder
    maybe i would be doing something illegal but is can not imagine the knives i sold to get ilegal because of this

    there is installer .. even with gui for installing debian via knoppix
    everything you got to do is partitioning with gui and enter hostname and passwords and of course clicking next
    debian installer

    if you want cutting-edge stuff you should use gentoo
    it works very well once installed and you get the things soon after they are released
    there are a few exceptions but there is still breakmygentoo

    ms office is buggier then hell too
    i think it's to hot in hell for bugs anyway =))
    i don't mean the "now i start word in safe mode because you annoy me" type of bugs
    there is no usablility ... but you get used to it
    if you use ms office long enough you know what you can do and what not and you will stay away from things you can't do
    and so it appears less buggie
    i OO.org is very near to be ready
    i "forced" my mother to use it
    the first few weeks where problematic but now she finds advantages to ms office almost every day

    you can be sure someone will be watching at the code
    and even if once nobody looks at the code the guys at SuSE can never be sure nobody is looking
    maybe they could slip in one or two things but they are always at risk to be caught with clear prove
    once caught nobody would ever again trust them again and just switch to another distro
    with ms there is not half the chance they could be caught and if they are caught there would be no such clear prove
    and to which other distro of windows would you switch once they are caught????
    every SuSE update should be available as source code or they would be in serious legal trouble

    they are all doing research
    but they will not use their researches untill there is not enough oil to sell or it is to expensive for normal customers
