The insulting nature of your reply alleviates you of the responsibility of objectivity. Isn't it just possible that someone with a different point of view could have something worth saying? Or do such opinions frighten you so much that you feel you have only verbal violence to resort too.

Science is great, I enjoy many of it's applications. I live longer and with better health. I write unnecessary diatribes on slashdot. Rushing headlong into any unnecessary creation and eradication of human life, however, should be taken no less lightly than the extinction of a species. Such events occur, BECAUSE of a lack of appreciation for their existence, and a desire to benefit (usually commercially) by ending it. Seems at least a bit similar to me. It's certain that our species won't advance much if we become extinct due to a simple lack of appreciation for our own existence.

Sounds like possibly big business probing for their "killer app" of cloning technology. Just because it can be done doesn't mean it should be done for just any reason, or that it's a good idea.

If it's true that stem cells can be gotten other ways why find another way to kill the progeny of our own species be they seconds or days old? There's plenty of that going on already.

In any case, attempting to beat down percievedly opposing points of view with insults and disdain doesn't amount to a discussion of the subject. Even if there are a few facts thrown in.

By the way, if there is a god, and he knows everything (like you do) maybe he's just scared to talk to you because he knows you could prove he doesn't exist?

    HYNNIEWTREP NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL

The HNLC is closely linked with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland - Issak Muivah (NSCN-IM). It also has a front organisation called the HSDF (Hynniewtrep State Democratic Front), whose 'Commander-in-Chief' Dominic Kharpuli and three other cadres were arrested on October 20, 2001. The outfit is also reportedly maintaining some of its camps in Bangladesh. It also promotes the circulation of fake currency in the State, which was started at the behest of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan's external intelligence agency, reports hold.

Hmm...okay well you gotta get your money somewhere.

    Objectives
An important objective of the HNLC is to transform Meghalaya as a province exclusively for the Khasi tribe and free it from 'domination' by the Garo tribe. Another objective is to fight against the presence of 'outsiders', as the HNLC feels that Khasi youth are deprived of the fruits of development in the state.

Oh good, so it's "for the kids" apparently. Sounds great huh?

"April 2: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister D D Lapang says the government is unable to spell the terms and conditions for talks with the Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) terrorist outfit as the latter failed to give any positive indication to the government's proposal
August 15: Security arrangements throughout Meghalaya are tightened to ensure the smooth celebration of Independence Day, following a 24-hour bandh (general strike) call given by the HNLC and the People's Liberation Front. Chief Minister F A Khonglam renews his invitation, on the occasion of Independence day, to terrorists groups in the State "to come to the negotiation table and sort out differences in a peaceful manner."

Sounds like they're not interested in negotiating...the following is an exerpt from one of their newsletters on yahoo.

"The HNLC sends its best wishes to all its members who are near and far away on their journey to complete their tasks as the Hynniewtrep Nation has bestowed on them, without them it would be meaningless to celebrate this anniversary."

Complete their tasks...since they're not negotiating with the government it seems safe to assume that these tasks are militarily oriented. The following facts seem to bear this out.
These items occured between 2001 and 2003. Mind you I'm only printing out the HNLC anti government activity, there listing of the government activity as well, but I'm not doing a post on the Indian government.

"August 6: Security forces in Meghalaya arrest eight HNLC terrorists from Mawlai, Shillong. The East Khasi Hills district police chief says those arrested are mostly teenagers and add that it confirms that the HNLC is recruiting teenagers into its fold."

For the kids, of the kids, by the kids....

"August 15: Police personnel killed and another injured when fleeing HNLC terrorists fire at security forces.
January 5: Five civilians killed and four others injured in an attack by HNLC terrorists on a business establishment in Shillong.
March 4: Seng Khasi leader Rijoy Khongshah, was abducted earlier on March 1, 2001, killed by HNLC terrorists.
January 9: Two security guards of a nationalised bank killed in an attack by HNLC terrorists at Mawsynram village.
January 19: HNLC terrorists attack a police outpost in Shillong and kill two police personnel
February 19: The outfit, in a statement, opposes Census operations in the State and threatens to eliminate enumerators participating in the process. "

So you feel like blacklisting is similar to gassing kurdish children or hate crimes? Give me a break. You've dismissed yourself from intelligent conversation about the matter. Wipe the spit off your chin and go see a movie or something.

It's censorship allright, censorship of STUPIDITY. I've never setup a mail server in my life, but even I would know to make sure it wasn't a relay. Anybody that can't telnet ip 25 and check shouldn't be allowed near sendmail or any other mail server. Anybody that sets up an open relay needs to...

    a.)Be blacklisted for a while.

b.)Hire a real admin to set it up.

For most "accidental" open relays (small companies, guys with a t1 and an employee that knows "all about" exchange), Getting out from under it is as simple as getting another domain and or IP address. Anybody that can't figure that out needs to...

a.) Be blacklisted for a while.

b.) Hire a real admin to set it up.

One ISP I worked at decided to run their own relay checker and shut down their own customers who had open relays. With very little effort they were able to prevent blacklisting. They did it because they hated SPAM (and were responsive to their customers who felt the same), it was easy to do, and they hated STUPIDITY, not because they were scared of ORBS.
The company I currently work for didn't bother to police their own network and was blacklisted by both AOL and RoadRunner (or at least whatever service they used) at one point. If it hadn't been for the blacklists my company wouldn't have bothered to get it under control (which they did, then got off the lists). So what happened was...

    a.)Got blacklisted for a while.

b.) They got a real admin to take care of the problem.

c.)Started enforcing the fines they already had in the user agreement.

I LOVED sending those people to billing to pay their 500$ fine. HAR! In that way the blacklists (which are completely optional, and can be dropped at any time, and in all cases this is done in response to customers excercising THEIR freedom to take their business somewhere else) have increased ISP responsibility. That was sure the case here. Spam is the ultimate waster of bandwidth and storage space (besides my slashdot posts and the blaster worm) and needs to be dealt with.

What about your right to choose? Choose another email address. The list keepers and listusers are in business to make money and blocking spam is an attractive selling point. The fact that Shawn Atkinson was afraid for his life should give you some idea what a selling point it is. Maybe you want/need all that email about fat butts and small wieners. I don't. Well... maybe I NEED it but it hurts my butts feelings (yes my butt is so huge that it has feelings of it's own). Spam is not the price anybody HAS to pay so YOU can feel "free".

What about the "vigilante" method? I mostly liked the way Shawn Atkinson was dealt with, but realistically that doesn't happen often enough to be the only way of dealing with the problem. Granted there needs to be better notification and ease of remittance in some cases, but it doesn't kill any kurdish kids, may actually SAVE the lives of some homosexuals (less hate-spam), and makes me feel better about having a really huge butt and a small wiener.

While It's true that Thomas Jefferson thought bloody revolution might be necessary every 20 years in order to maintain our liberty, and Franklin stated that we were creating a new being in the making of the American people, the leading men of revolutionary America (taken as a whole) were conservative enough to disinclude slaves, women, and American Indians (not to mention Brittish loyalists) from the list of beings with rights. I'd say the politics of our era are less conservative than theirs.

Simply being involved in a violent conflict precipitated by deeply held beliefs doesn't make someone radical, or even liberal. In fact it was simple changes in the status quo by a very poor politician and worse statesman that initiated a desire for separation that would otherwise have remained dormant. If the people of the American colonies had been given equal rights as Brittish subjects there would have been no revolution and we'd probably be celebrating our independence on July 1st (Canada day).

By todays political standards many of these men would (and rightly so) be considered quite conservative. Though I'm guessing the floor of the house would be considerably more interesting if some of them were present. I think beatings in and about the capitol buildings were not uncommon. I believe that all men are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, wether they believe in a creator or not. It's the belief that a birthright of a variety of freedoms may be expected that is the cornerstone of both freedom and (as outlined in the constitution) our attempt at democracy. I've often stood for the rights of the weak without stopping first to ask if either the agreessor or the victim believed in either a creator or the constitution. The authors of the Diebold faults stand for the rights of (myself included unfortunately) the tehcnically weak in the same fashion.

In the past and present our freedoms have most often been supported with the lives of people who believed (wether associated with a specific religion or not) in a creator and it's endowment of rights. To obliquely sugest that the growing rows of tombstones in arlington cemetery are by and large the graves of fascists is at best Un-American, and as antithetic to the freedoms you obviously enjoy as fascism truly is.

I applaud the exposure of the flaws in the Diebold sytem. While the current system of electoral votes has good and bad points it's obviously on it's way out, and something more like the stated goals of the Diebold system than it itself is may be necessary to the integrity of the expressed will of the people. While I have some technical skills they are certainly insufficient to the task of those who exposed these flaws. Thank you.
