I think its more likely you'll be secretly labelled an "enemy combatant", deported to egypt for some "questioning" and errr chased to your death by hundreds of naked women
i reckon they could easily make an original movie about this.
it could be about an ordinary citizen who gets on the wrong side of the NSA by accidently stumbling across some information. he could hook up with an informant who shows him that he has bugs in his shoes and that the NSA has been monitoring all phone calls for key words like bomb and president.
i mean we'd have to include some car chases and cool spy technology and show how our hero takes the low tech options to avoid them.
as for a name... how about "that guy who the state doesn't like very much"
Have you actually jumped on a tape lately? When we were 5 years old yeah tapes were fairly hardy. Now I weigh 90 kilograms (no idea about the pounds). If I jump on a tape in a parking lot it is sure as hell going to break. Also in my experiance mass produced recordings are far more durable than blank cds. (the point is moot though because with a 40 cent blank cd you can have a replacement within minutes)
I have an experiment for you... take one cd, one ipod and one tape and dip them in water. See which one still works.
I think the other thing the article failed to account for is the increase in weekly fuel (gas) costs to the average consumer. When the price in oil spiked people would definately have been spending what would have equated to at least one cd more a week extra on petrol.
3. Political turmoil. As the social disparity increases, they will get inundated with protests and strikes like any other modern industrial country.
Protests in China tend to get run over by tanks.
Aside from that your post makes sense - but when vietnam/ethiopia becomes the new china/japan what happens to western nations? Do we make money by owning the chinese companies or by selling the "emerging" worlds massive populations drugs?
in terms of "bang" for buck, the cpus you get for an xbox now may be cheaper than for your server, but by the time this thing is hacked and running linux the price of cpus will have fallen.
the original xbox cpu at 733mhz (similar to a celeron) was well and truly an antique years ago
i'm no geek, but most ripping software would (i'm guessing) have to call an external dll/program (even just to access the media) to do all the work... so maybe thats why it cant be reproduced?
yeah, because the first generation of xbox games had pretty crappy gameplay.
I remember this game called halo, what a shocker!
(sorry for being sarcastic, I haven't had much sleep) And to prove I dont have anything against xbox i'll tell my little ps2 story (again). I got the console the first christmas of its release and kept it for 2 years, In that time (1st gen games) I was not inspired to buy a single game. It was an AU$700 dvd player.
Then someone took a risk (I might have grown out of video games) and bought me a gamecube. And the games were actually worth buying (especially because nobody else was buying them and they were cheap).

Just because the US model produces the most results, does not mean it is the most efficient. The pharmaceutical companies spend more on lobbying than any other industry... do you think there is a reason for that?
Do you actually think the cartridges that come with new printers are full?
The local cartridge refilling shop (okay hardly a reliable source) says that they usually have a third of the ink of a new cartridge
sweeeeeeeet

Blair: Okay, I have a great idea lets let these guys finish up the documentation and I'll take you out to our Favourite Bar

it's a beautiful thing to watch.

perhaps because you are the richest country on the fucking earth?
1. United States 11,667,515
2. Japan 4,623,398
France (5th) and China (7th) have less than a 5th of the GDP of the USA
And that data is from the world bank (2004):

but will i be able to play battlefield 2 lag free without having to connect the old fashioned ethernet cable?
IMO are some great shows. And if that fails i'll watch bsg or x-files dvds
and i mean that in the nicest way possible
thats one hell of a jam in tray 2

why bother? odds are it will be incinerated anyway
option b) bittorrent
option c) pay reasonable price to download episode
since option a sucks (i need sleep *sometimes*), and option c doesn't seem to exist...
