More often, a major version number increment (1.0, 2.0, 3.0...) means that a new *round* of features have been added and are stable. You don't have to have every feature the product will ever need to be able to call it 1.0. Otherwise it might as well be version infinity, there'd be no need for anything after that.
Immigration isn't a real issue, it isn't hurting the economy and we aren't being stretched by it.
And it's people with views like yours, I'm afraid, that are the reason I'm moving to Canada as soon as possible. I want to live in a country that's able to be proud of its nationality and culture instead of having it constantly diluted. Have fun in your tower-of-Babel melting-pot.
Seem to get results when it comes to diplomacy arround the world I agree -- there's a lot to be said for keeping out of other people's business. If only the jug-eared bastard currently in charge of the UK would do this and sort out his own rapidly deteriorating back yard.
No, no, no. I hope and pray he keeps in other people's business, for a couple more years. Then he won't be able to fuck up this country anymore with things like ID cards, draconian laws against his idea of 'antisocial behaviour', ever-increasing taxation to be frittered away owing to incredible inefficiency in public services, etc.
Then we can get a slightly less-terrible leader in.
I don't really need a motherboard bundle; if you like a certain manufacturer and/or set of features, you can usually get a motherboard that has that. In fact I've already pretty much decided that side of things (AOpen, SATA support, DDR2 RAM, etc.) The difficult thing is deciding which CPU to go for.
Hmm, well I'm glad that's true but for someone like me who's looking to replace his motherboard/CPU and isn't an expert in the CPU market, it's pretty difficult. I'm not sure whether to go with AMD, Intel, or wait. Isn't 'buy now' and 'wait' always the dilemma, given that there are always constant improvements in CPUs and 5 minutes after you've purchased some smartass will say "haha, your chip is slow as..."?
Me, I love the English language. I don't have anything against the French you know, but their language just isn't as developed. I dunno, English just has that.... je ne sais quoi.
I applaud the "News Hour" [pbs.org] for broadcasting all the names and faces of the fallen American soldiers as their names are released by the Pentagon.
Thing is, do they do the normal thing of playing patriotic music, and showing a happy family photo of them in front of a US flag flapping in the wind? That almost makes it look like an honour for them to have died for the US in the war, no matter what the reasoning behind it. The US version of martyrs. Are you saying that's a good thing? I'd say it's part of the glorification/sanitization.
Actually, the 'edit' commands did look like they were recognised fine. Word just wrote them into the document instead of obeying them. Any why wouldn't it? Would you want your document buggered up because you happened to want to say 'select all' or 'back' or 'delete' or 'fix'???
The only sensible solution i can think of is to click a button or press a key before giving an edit command.
They choose not to be in tech because of the horrendous, entirely male-dominated environment.
I seriously question this. Maybe that's a factor in the US, but in the UK, I've been in quite a few computing classes both pre-university and during university, and have encountered no sexism. Despite this, there have been extremely few women in the classes.
I think it's more of a societal thing in that women aren't so much encouraged to go into IT.... or maybe it's intertia.... I dunno. But a sexist environment? I don't think you can generalize like that.
I have never seen the intelligent response you gave, but instead "I don't care. You know what meant"
At this point, thrust your groin toward them vigourously several times, wave your hands about like a snake and make a donkey sound. Then say, "And you know full well what THAT meant."
The phrase "I could care less" is a sarcastic version of "I couldn't care less."
Possibly. But the way I've usually heard Americans say it, they don't say it sarcastically so it sounds like they mean it. To work as sarcasm, the person would need to be rolling their eyes and speaking very sarcastically, which doesn't usually happen.
No, Firefox decided to set itself to that by default, and I don't like that default, especially when I'm regularly having to move computers and work on fresh installations of Firefox.
Which is, unfortunately, more than can be said for Firefox. I got a nice dialog today interrupting my browsing session telling me that an update would be installed. Thanks for asking, Firefox.
We are working hard, though, to get the Firefox update mechanism fixed.
this example would be like me writing an application that is a text viewer (or whatever) and when the user types in a URL, I use the Mozilla code to drop an HTML Rendering component in my application.
Most of Firefox is not loaded until you click on the IE icon.
Wow, is precaching of OTHER browsers' code a new feature in IE7? I knew MS were in trouble with the EU but I didn't think this was one of the concessions.:-)
I don't know that I'd agree with that.

It's a very good time to build / buy systems.

Oops, rereading that post I suppose I did suggest that I was a woman, didn't I. :-) I'm male.
Violence breeds violence.
Hasn't WW2 resulted in a relatively lasting peace in Europe?

this juvenile prejudice against women in IT
Please tell me the last time you were denied an IT job or the ability to contribute in an OSS project because you were female.

the absurd dilution of "awesome."
Yeah, I know. Extremely radical, dude.
in the end the person responsible for a killing is the person who pulled the trigger, and the person who gave the order to do that.
:-P
Unless you work in the UK Met police.
Sorry, couldn't resist.
Except a bunch of guys singing Kumbaya would look a lot less gay than American footballers.
How about the story of Frog (Glynn) in Chrono Trigger? That made me quite sad. :-)

When you look for bush, you're always gonna get Dick.
You must have LOVED playing Battletoads.
But weren't there a ton of Japanese RPGs that DID get the full translation treatment and did very well?
Secret of Mana?
Zelda?
Some of the Final Fantasy's?
Chrono Trigger?
Dragon Warrior?
And they're just off the top of my head.
