Everybody blames Bush for the country's problems, but overlook the majority of Congress and Senate are Democrat. I haven't heard or seen any terrorist acts on our nation since 2001. Iraq has given the people the right to vote, we helped them learn to govern, and defend their own country, we captured Saddam Hussein. We have rescued American and foreign contract workers. We have assisted numerous countries after tsunamis, earthquakes, helped Georgia defend themselves against a Russian takeover. There are many good things that Bush has done for our country.

I wasn't aware that I was coming across as accusatory, but something in there obviously ruffled your feathers. You immediately attacked my character and said to me that, "you have no idea what you're talking about." It would behoove you to actually look into what I am talking about and think about it.

And also think about how you followed up your statement:
It isn't a question of believing that there is no god, it's not believing that there is a god.
"believing that there is no god" and "not believing that there is a god" are absolutely equivalent statements. Semantics bear this out completely, especially from a scientific standpoint. Think about it.

One last thing to think about regarding God: If I'm wrong and you are right, I lose nothing and you lose nothing. But, if I'm right and you are wrong, I gain everything and you lose everything.

I agree with your statements. Just thought I'd point out something interesting about "atheists vs. faithful believers." It seems to me that atheists have abundantly more faith than any believer. I believe it takes more faith to believe that there is no God.

An analogy to illustrate: Suppose that you took all of the individual components of a fine Swiss watch, threw them into a bag, and shook them up for 20 billion years. What are the chances that, when you open the bag, you will have a fully-assembled fine Swiss watch? Now, follow the analogy of our infinitely complex universe compared to the relatively simple fine Swiss watch. That really takes much more faith than I will ever possess for an atheist to believe that there is no God.

Any scientists worth their salt would behoove themselves to take an honest look at the overwhelming evidence he provides to form a more comprehensive view of the issue.

    4) Organic evolution: Origin of life from inanimate matter.
    5) Macroevolution: Origin of major kinds.
    6) Microevolution Variations within kinds: Only this one has been observed, the first five are religious.
If you think you can prove Evolution with facts, take the $250,000.00 challenge (not a joke).

For those into an enlightening multimedia experience, try watching these seminars.

FYI, I am a Catholic that was taught evolution and creation in school. I am not affiliated with the Dr. Dino site in any way. These videos absolutely blew me away. If you're a Christian, watch them. If not, watch them anyway just to see both sides of the Evolution/Creation issue so that you may intelligently debate with cold, hard facts.

In this case, percussionist is the correct word. If the namesake is truly Neil Peart, "drummer" is a woefully inadequate descriptor. He is much more accomplished than a mere drummer and this project may wish to aspire to such great heights.

Some people are missing the point and think that this project was invented just to play MIDI drum sounds through a speaker. Although I cannot reach the website because of the slashdotting, I can infer from the original post that this is a real robot playing real drums. This is an admirable feat at the very least.

Having a synthetic Neil Peart would be phenomenal. I'm happy that these students have taken it upon themselves to usher MIDI to the next level by melding it with very real robotic triggers to make the drums sound more realistic. Also, I'm elated that one of the most spectacular and accomplished drummers of our time is being recognized by name with a project such as this.

If you want to check out some real Neil Peart, here's an excellent site for some bootlegs. Just do a search on 'Rush' for the ultimate in percussive listening pleasure!!! IMHCO, a mechanical drummer will never sound this good. If you're sufficiently impressed, go buy the studio albums. You won't regret it.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I meant 44.1KHz. I have this capability in my project home studio, albeit without portability. I'm looking for a good portable solution that won't bust my pocketbook like my home studio did. CD quality is a must have. I'm sure there are others like me. The Digi MBox will probably not suffice because of the laptop requirement. I need something that I can put in the hands of a technically-challenged person for recording our gigs. The only thing they should have to worry about is hitting the record button. Any ideas?

I agree with you to some degree. The post is partially about proportionality. But to say I've missed the point is to only take into account your interpretation of the subject matter. Would there even be a need for a law against stealing if no one did it in the first place?

My comment was a counterpoint to the whining /. people who somehow think it's their right to full access to a body of work which hasn't even been deemed worthy of public release yet. As an artist myself, I firmly believe that no one should have access to my work until I believe it is ready.

If someone has purposely downloaded material such as that described in this article, then that person is a thief. It doesn't matter if that person plans to buy the material later. Based on that logic, you could assume that walking out of the Ferrari dealership with a brand new car without signing any paperwork or promising any payment (stealing) is fine as long as you go plop down some money in the future at your convenience.

And no, I don't think an illegally concealed handgun does any more harm to society than that of a movie downloaded on your hard drive. But that's another totally unrelated issue. This issue is not about bringing any harm to society; it is about stealing from artists. Sure, there are actors/actresses bringing in multi-million dollar salaries, but does anyone ever think of the other folks involved that work for minimum wage or just above that during a movie shoot?

I wish I had the answers that would fix everything and make it all better, but I don't. I guess the most important point I can make to the folks that think this is such a travesty is: Don't steal! If you know someone that does, educate them on what could happen to them if you really care about them. If I didn't make a strong enough point then I am sorry to have wasted your time.

If you have this kind of data on your hard drive in the first place, chances are you have stolen it. It is a crime. I'm not a fan of the MPAA, RIAA, DMCA, etc., but breaking the law in order to illicit change in what we deem a fundamentally flawed system is still breaking the law! Find something better to do with your time. How very sad someone's life must be that they can't wait for a movie to go from the big screen to DVD... or in this particular case, they can't wait for it to even hit the movie theaters in the first place!!!

...and if you seriously have a problem with the system itself and are doing your part to rebel against the MPAA by perpetuating these crimes, wake the fsck up! You are actually doing quite the reverse of your intention by attracting more attention (and money) to these overpaid Hollywood hooligans!!!

The 30-second commercial skip feature was eliminated with TIVO2... or was it? This is one of the most helpful Easter Eggs I have found. Excerpted from BigMarv's How I Did That:

    1. Grab your TiVo remote.
    2. Bring up any recorded program. (You have to be watching a recorded program rather than "Live TV" in order to enable the feature.)
    3. On your TiVo remote, key in the following sequence: SELECT PLAY SELECT 30 SELECT
    4. If you've successfully entered the code, you should hear three "bings" in succession to inform you that you've successfully enabled the 30 second skip.
