The biggest thing there is to battle when it comes to understanding what all this jargon means is the lack of wanting to understand. Or, in short, they simply don't listen. (I believe they don't think they should have to 'learn' to use the computer. It should just work.)
a simple point-in-case: Whenever I see someone using the [tab] key to move to move between fields and they reach for the mouse to go back a field, I tell them they can use [shift]+[tab] to move back one. 9 times out of 10, they tell me that they don't know anything about computers before I can even finish my first sentence.
I must say that I've got to put my two cents in for Dana Design as well. I grew up in the town this company started in and as a result, I know from experiance and from knowledge about how the business is run that they are very comfortable and a bag that will last you long term.
I'll also add that I've got a rather old (maybe older than me even) backpack from Marmot that has taken A LOT of college abuse (read 4+ years) and is none the worse for it.
you should have used a lightbulb socket to a two prong adapter in the fridge. That way you could say that you read/. in the highlands on a 28k modem in a fridge in a small house. That way you're charging your battery, reading slashdot, and lighting the fridge via the LCD... just don't close the fridge door. Assuming you belive the light goes out when you close the door...
As an English minor and a Computer Science major who does some SERIOUS doodling on the side, the best type of pens I have found is anything where you have that ink well near the tip of the pen that ink slowly leaks into (these pens are preferred by most writers; Pilot and Uni-Ball makes many variations, including the "VBall Grip" and Vision respectively). I personally go with the ones marked "extra fine" (aka 0.2mm) as they still make multiple copies when I'm signing for stuff. Beware of "Gel" pens that may look like this though, they run out of ink very fast and the tip tends to get clogged if you forget about it and leave it open too long. I used a fountain tip for quite some time (cheap one known as "varsity" don't remember the maker) but got annoyed trying to work with it in the dark as you have to hold it against the paper in exactly the write fashion to get it to mark the paper.
On the mechanical pencil end, I've had this 0.9mm one that I love so much, I've worn off who the maker is... I've found that 0.9mm is thin enough for everyday writing and detailed drawing, and still fat enough to shade in large areas.
The best thing to do, however, is to go to a stationary store (or your local university's bookstore) and just keep trying stuff until you find something that suits you.

Damnit. Now I have to visit dictionary.com. I hope this isn't an indication about the rest of my day......"

great. that was helpful.
My father once told me a story of a small town in the US who, because of budget problems, hired a firm to set up white vans to monitor speeders and to issue tickets to the owner of the plate. After a short time, people were getting annoyed for getting tickets for going just one or two miles per hour over the limit and these whtie vans began to fall subject to vandles (pun?). Finally, the town board got rid of it when the local police representitive pointed out that there is a difference between breaking the speed limit, and speeding.
When penicillin was first invented it didn't have a use. I may also note that neither did comptuers as we think of them today. The first ones that we could start compairing to what we use now were pretty much only useful for controlling electric train models.
When I buy a CD or movie, the bulk of what I feel I'm paying for is quality of the product and the fact that I like the production and want to support the artist(s) that produced it. I personally am out there sampling stuff because I'm board. Being a person who hates spending money, I can admit that I've bought 2 CDs and a half dozen DVDs (and a 'to buy' list 7 DVDs long) because of p2p. Knowing myself, I can honastly say that I would not have bought a single CD, and maybe only one or two DVDs, nevermind the computer to watch/listen to them on...
The prize is beer.
What if someone in the straight edge crowed wins?

Of course printers are getting worse in quality! Why do you think StrongBad still uses a Dot Matrix?
