Reason: I pulled the g00v00 numbers off the wrong jobs. I thought we were running with Thursday night's output, not Friday's. I misunderstood which set we were supposed to run with.
Excuse: Ray wasn't clear on which set of tapes to run with. I thought he meant Thursday's tapes.
There is a difference there.
And it's not like I was taking the fall for the other guy...he wasn't clear but I should have been smart enough to ask for the clarification.
Take responsibility and ownership of the problem. Don't make excuses, but give real reasons.
Fix it..do whatever it takes, even if it means working over a weekend.
Write a good post mortem, explaining how th e fix is different from the original problem.
And hope to god that your management is understanding enough to keep you on.
This is comong from a guy, who in 1997 blew a $100,000 test weekend by kicking off the systems tests by loading the wrong generation of tapes.
I took the blame, and expected to lose my job. But I knew that the right thing to do was to try to recover from the problem. I stayed in the office from 1:00AM Sunday to 10:00AM Monday morning rerunning every job and report and proving out the results.
Not only did I keep my job, but I got promoted a year later. I made a name for myself that weekend....sure I could f*k up, but I work hard to keep things right for the company.
I happen to believe that the term "creation science" is the oxymoron since its theories are often laced with fairy tales, and church leaders agendas. At least evolution science is anchored in SOMETHING, the current line of thinking based on evidence we can see and touch. Not a bunch of stories that have been morphed over thousands of years of translation and 'cleansing'.
>>Further to that, the chances that Al Qaeda, the Tamil Tigers, or Cobra itself are going to infiltrate the artic and spirit away with these microbes are too ridiculous to entertain.

Who gives a rat's ass what your penis size is? Please don't take that offensively.
If some chick is gonna' complain about the the size of your schlong, then get rid of her...she's not worth it. She's probably also preoccupied with the number of zeroes in your accounts. And she doesn't want to see only one of those either. Bigger is better to those types and it's all they care about.
I just tried generating 3 tones (sine waves with no modulation) in cool edit pro a 10K, 16K and 20K. All with the same volume.
I was able to hear the 16K but it sounded 'lower' than the 10K and 20K. 20K less audible than 10K. Is it possible that my hearing is damaged only in the range of the stuff I listen to? Rock music...so guitars and keyboards mostly.
I know you're not a doctor, but does this make sense?
Louder is better untill you start to notice the hearing loss.
When I was younger is used to love to "KRANK IT UP!!".
I got my hearing checked recently by a new doctor and afterwards she asked me if I had ever been in the military. I said no, and she looked at me sadly and asked if I like to listen to loud music. To this I said yes. She shook her head and told me that my high frequency hearing was gone, and that I'd start to notice difficulty hearing low volume sounds and general difficulty hearing by the time I'm 40 or 45 if I keep it up.
I asked her why she asked me the question about the military, and she said 2 words. Grenades and explosions.
Sadly, even though I stopped the high volume listening years ago (7 years before this exam) I guess that it took it's toll as I do have trouble hearing normal conversation...especially where there's background noise. We have a new truck, and I can't even hear the blinker noise over the sound of the road. My wife has to contantly tell me to turn it off.
Myself, I like to use Austin Tobin 1 World Trade Center, NY, NY, 10048. DOB July, 1972
When filling out forms.
Even in the real world, when I go into a store and they ask me for my zip code, I give them 10048. Let em' throw that into their demographics analysis.
In more meaningful circumstances I make a point of talking about the WTC so that people don't forget, so I figure what the hell I may as well do this online as well. Maybe someone somewhere will google 10048 and find out what it really is.
One thing I remember was some commentary that Emmanuel Goldstein wrote in 2600 about Kevin's release conditions...
Something along the lines of he's so hobbled by the restriction on not using a computer that he couldn't get a job on McDonalds.... the fry machine timers there are technically computers.
Another FPS.
New universe, new engine.

Firethorn,
Forget it. Sometimes people just don't 'get it'. I say that if he doesn't already understand, then you can't explain it to him.

>>More realistically it would have been something like he was in on friday for the test....
I was on site the whole weekend. Overnight Friday into Saturday afternoon.
At least 50 IT staff monitoring the downstream jobs after I kicked off the tape job. Users in the office from 10:00am Saturday.
The problem wasn't identified until about 5:00PM Saturday. By the users, who noted that the interest numbers were 1 day short.
I was there the whole weekend.
As opposed to every other weekend for 1 1/2 years back then when I was working every Saturday on the testing.
Just because you've never seen someone work their ass off, nor have you done it yourself, don' assume that no one does.

It's only been in the fridge for half a million years.
