Works fine for me and I'm a Fluxbox man. I haven't spent $30 for shareware apps yet. Here's my output from nice top running Firebird, 2 instances of Finder, copying across network shares, and Itunes. Bugs? Yeah, the Samba problem I mentioned earlier. Other than that, nada. OSX Panther just works for me.
Maybe you haven't experienced Panther then. I moved to Panther as my laptop (Powerbook 15") from a Dell Mandrake laptop and I'm very impressed. Only thing I don't like is OSXs' inability to gracefully browse/refresh my Samba network. Definitely not bloated and buggy, ugly in is in the eye of the beholder.
I just upgraded (MSI motherboard died) from an Athlon 1.33 to an Athlon XP 2600+ (1.92.ghz). Can't tell much of a difference. Seems kind of depressing but then I remind myself that w/ negligible difference between last year's and this year's processors, we can all afford to wait for the 5ghz 64bit processors of our dreams.
hijack your bookmarks and change your video preferences to open everything in Winamp regardless if you specifically denied it that right during setup?
After Winamp3 did that to me, that was it.
What are the specs on your machine? I don't notice much difference except that Konqueror is MUCH faster than Nautilus and actually works as a file browser and web browser.
Hell, I couldn't tell you. KDE seems just as fast to me but I run pretty high-end machines w/ plenty of memory. I like the uniformity of Gnome but find myself getting stuff done w/ KDE, especially comparing Konqueror to Nautilus which is definitely slower IMHO.
If that was what was actually going through the poster's head... You and I have no idea what he was thinking. As I said, I don't know anyone who actually thinks that.
Maybe that price hike is going towards their free healthcare....
Seriously, though. People rag on the US for the RIAA? At least we don't have this levy and we're still allowed to own handguns.
Prove it. Since your were there and all. I'll just back to reading my Time magazine article about the rise of anti-semtisim and general racial crimes in your beloved Europe.
Do you live in the UK? Kind of doubt since you're talking about handguns here but I see the.uk email addy.
Gotta agree w/ you about the pistols. I started out w/ a Glock 22.40 and just bought my 2nd Kimber (a Custom CDP II). Best thing about the Glock is how easy it is to clean. Other than that, it's 1911.45 all the way.
I tried Smoothwall and IPCop. Couldn't get either one running behind due to my lack of experience and dealing w/ my landlord's Linksys router.
Tried OpenBSD and the OpenBSD community at Screamingelectron.org helped me through the OpenBSD learning process and configuring my box. Now I have a secure, stable firewall for free.
Before I get flamed, I've bought a T-shirt and CDs from OpenBSD to support the project.
to check, what's the difference on memory consumption between Mozilla running Mail and a browser window versus running Thunderbird and Firebird alongside?
Right now I'm running Mail (OSX) and Thunderbird. Reason I'm doing so to test Mail (works great!) and also I love the website icons for bookmarks in Firebird.
Definitely one of the most shaggable female tech reporters out there. Any other hot chick tech reporters?

You forgot one of my favorite words in that defense. "Ladies and gentlemen of this SUPPOSED jury..."
The hell I didn't. It did that to me on my computer and my brother's.

Wait, forgot to ask if you have tested KDE 3.2b against Gnome like she did. Did you?

KDE is (gulp) >faster> than Gnome? There goes one myth. Take away the Eugenia standard carping over the UI and you have a pretty good review.
As long as you got your thrill.

Bullshit. I'm not and I don't know anybody else that is. You're trolling, right?
Working on my quick draw :) Now that I've bought my Kimber Custom CDP II (drool)
Notice I got modded as a troll?

Yeah, it's special in that a LOT of people are running it as evidenced in the comments for this story.

A couple of my troops have ran into these fake ATMs in Tijuana. The fake ATMs have been there at least a couple of years from hearsay. Nasty place.
Well this isn't flamebait. Check my journal.
Try telling Michael that. Too bad he can't keep his snide remarks off the front page.
