I'm pretty sure there's a few specialized packages of Texstar's like Java for Mozilla that aren't in contribs. I am not for sure however.
In short, I just started using Mandrake. I was not aware of the issue you raised. Nothing of Texstar's has caused any problems on my box. I am primarily a Redhat/OpenBSD guy so I am still figuring out Mandrake.
I'm buying Mandrake 9.2 I use Redhat, Debian, and OpenBSD mainly but I tried Mandrake 9.1 on my laptop and replaced Redhat w/ it. urpmi surprised me (almost as good as apt) and the overall speed is noticeably better than Redhat. Combine this w/ the excellent packages from texstar and plf and I'm very happy.
I bougt one of these exact cases w/ a Cyrix 933mhz to be my OpenBSD 3.2 firewall. Uptime is about 190 days so far. Usually load is at 3% or less and used memory is 34 megs. Only caveat is that the powersupply fan is surprisingly loud. The box w/ motherboard and chip, nothing lese was $120 at Fry's. The box is actually a Falcon PC.
It's a lot of work. The best training we get is in setting up our own networks from the ground up and running them off of diesel generators out in the field somewhere w/ a satellite uplink. We have to ddeal w/ a Wintel monopoly so the training we do I enjoy most is the Cisco router work. BY the time one of my Marines is relaly knowledgeable, it's about time for his 4 year enlistment to be up
Robert A Heinlein wrote a story about the pervasive effects of broadcast electricity. One of the characters wore a lead coat and subsequently was in much better physical shape than the other characters.
Maybe Nautilus will provide a little competition for Konqueror. Hopefully something has been done to speed up its start-up time and web browsing. I tried Gnome a couple of months ago and its speed and simplicity surprised me but Nautilus needs some work compared to Konqueror.
I didn't get the impression ESR is against all Arabs. Rather, he's admitting his vision of a society like in Heinlein's novel Beyond This Horizon wouldn't be able to confront terrorism like we are now. I don't agree w/ his point about occupying other countries either.
As for the article, I think it's a bit too extreme in saying all Arabs and members of the Islamic religion are our enemies. However, there is something fundamentally wrong w/ a society or religion that follows such evil men blindly and it's main form of warfare is attacking innocents.
It's a tossup between ESR and Perens as my favorite Open Source advocates. Perens is funny and answers emails and offers to help anybody out. ESR likes guns and writes extremely well. They both have some big brass ones, leading the fight against SCO.
As for Stallman... I think he's still bitching about Debian and their not completely, totatlly, 100% free packages. I haven't seen him contribute anything in a long time except complaints and rhetoric.
As far as personal grooming Maddog doesn't give up much to RMS but at elast he seems to know what he's talking about instead of waxing outright fanatical. RMS doesn't even seem to be doing anything about SCO, let alone following the case.
Pathetic troll.

You mean Troed would use a product from an American company? Hope you got the special Eurpoean Echelon version.
Yep, sure did install it in CA. Need to check the time slot since I installed it last year.
I wonder if this is only for PCs purchased in store in CA or what if I ordered a Dell FROM CA?

This has already been posted and a fix (upgrade to 3.7) has been posted to www.deadly.org
Here's the main problem with Slashdot. Remember when he posted a personal compaint w/ Speakeasy on every story for day? Take a look here if you don't.

Mod this up, it isn't like you can't put a stop to the ads.
No, people are crazy.
Hey mods. How was this redundant? It was a first reply to a post!
It's a bit early in the morning here in CA, bear w/ me :)
I don't know if this would work in all cases but why not do this: /home/Desktop/somefolder /home/Desktop/.somefolder
cp
I'm sure you know but the extra "dot" denotes a hidden folder.

They're in the open source medical software biz as well.

Huh? He's into some decidedly non-western things like martial arts. I haven't heard anything about what you're saying about ESR. Explain.

Ever heard of BitTorrent? Check www.supernova.com
Add NAT in the mix and you're golden w/ those 2 firewalls. Check out www.screamingelectron.org for the most friendly *BSD commnunity.
