I prefer Gnome myself but the lack of functionality pushes me to KDe or more specifically Konqueror every time. Split level panes, tabs, everything's configurable, ACPI has more features (plus GNOME ACPI doesn't work like KDE's does on my Lenovo laptop).
I don't think I was twisting the truth-Gnome is beautiful and I think the default layout is better than KDE's however KDE has the power under the hood that I need. As far Gnome's dependancies, you do know about Slackware dropping Gnome right? Whenever I have a desktop crash, it's Gnome. I'm running Ubuntu Breezy and the latest Dapper but I've been running Linux on the dekstop/server for 6 years.
I think it's the desktop of choice as default on many distros because of the simplicity. That's fine but we haven't seen it work yet as a major deployment. I think all KDE needs to do is clean up the System Settings panel and maybe then the distros won't think that users will be terrified by choice.
Tabs will be added when someone provides a patch. In other words, never. Gnome isn't interested in tabs for Nautilus. Gnome will continue to be pushed as the default desktop of choice for every "Linux on the desktop" that fails (pretty standard in that area) while those of us who use Linux for choice and aren't afraid of tabs, address bar, etc will use KDE or Fluxbox. I predict KDE 4 will sneak up on Gnome users while Gnome is dropped from more distributions because of their tangled mss of dependancies (see Slackware).
Too bad Gnome devels are such misguided idealists.
The thing is I like Gnome, specifically the OSX like layout but I hate being treated like an idiot with all of the crippled and obscure features. Is there a way to make KDE more like OS X as far as the layout?
Any Gnome devels reading, please explain why we can't have an address bar and tabs in Nautilus!
that there's tabs or split level viewing SOMEWHERE hidden in Nautilus. I don't see how tabs go against the HIG guidelines but maybe I just don't get it.
How all of these Commonwealth countries that have banned private citizens from owning weapons are now deploying surveillance cameras and national ID cards. Adolph was big on banning guns too.
Using the software update utility from Lenovo's website downloads all of the updates in one shot and instlal them all. I've never seen this endless rebooting you describe.
It's hard not pick on SUVs when peopel die in them because of the rollover problems inherent in the design and you see people by themselves using them as a daily driver. A gas guzzler tax would be appropriate. If I see one more housewife driving a Hummer talking on a cell phone....
I cannot believe they pulled this! Until the federal government changes the rules, though, the political tussle over taxing digital downloads will continue in state capitols. Last year, Democratic Wisconsin Gov. Jim Doyle proposed a tax on iTunes purchases, with his administration calling it an "issue of tax equity." Republicans pledged to defeat it, and they ultimately prevailed.
Oh wait... They're on our side. All of you DailyKos readers just look away. And just forget about the 800lb gorilla.
Troops just don't follow orders to kill babies because those orders do not exist. And if you ever are foolish enough to say this to some troops, I look forward to you getting shut up quick, fast, and in a hurry. You could of course, enlist and go to Iraq and "expose" everything that you claim is going on over there. Not that you'd put your own body on the line for your beliefs.
The CNN I watched and the Voice of the BBC I listened to while in the Marine Corps for 8 years were uncensored. Stop talking about what you know nothing about. Stick to bitching about/.
Actually, the rebels are religous extremists that are busy killing each other. There's also quite a few foreign fighters such as the fair haired, fair skinned Syrian that nicked my little brother in the ear with a rifle bullet. But how could my little brother contradict your superior knowledge? After he was only fucking THERE while you were sitting behind your computer. Not to mention all of these "freedom fighters" that are so hopped up on drugs that they don't feel getting shot. Or all of the ones that confessed they were fighting for the money paid to them.
Yup, there's no religious war going on over there. It's all the US baby-killers, right? I'll bet you'll neve rhave the balls to say what you just said to some troops arriving home from Iraq. Not in person at least.
I sincerely doubt the Gulf War Syndrome was caused by handling depleted uranium ammunition. For one thing, it is almost always enclosed in a sabot. Look up sabot ammunition. Then look up the Gulf War Syndrome since you obviously have no idea what you're talking about. In fact, the effects of radioactive materials on the human body are well documented and I don't think they correlate with the Gulf War Syndrome.
Yippee! Like any serious geeks on /. really give a damn about that abomination of a site.

It's not the same and I do run Nautilus. Not a real address bar.

Your forgot the complete lack of industry experience part.
I salute you, Sir. Emailing your post to Dvorak.

OK, all Americans are stupid because we have a 2 party system. Next?

Much better than taxing the gas guzzling SUVs that exploit loopholes in the law or taxing cigarettes. Yup, very logical.

Losing my faith in /. but it turns out we're all united in our hatred of MySpace.
I get tired of the name calling and "US soldiers are baby killers" crap I see on /.
Imagine...a tech site without Roland Piquepalle. What more can you ask for?

Have you ever enlisted? Nope, and speaking as someone who has, I know you're wrong.

Digg's starting to repalce /. for me. Less politics. Give it a try.
Troll, but I'll bite. The Arabs in Iraq are busy killing each other and doing a great job at it.
