    I completely agree.
Stealing in the physical world is easy to understand - the owner loses the artefact that was stolen from them. When copying data, the owner does not lose the original data, but loses *potential* income (it is not in advance known whether the person who made a copy would have purchased the data from the author at all). ...and of course that's the issue...
It will become much more of an issue if (or when) we will have the ability to create exact copies of physical objects. If you've ever seen Star Trek, do you ever wonder why they have abandoned money? I say it's because they have that same ability - they can easily generate copies of nearly any [non-living] matter. If the RIAA succeeds in banning digital copying now, will somebody try and achieve the same goal to prevent people in some 3rd world country from getting free bread?? (which reminds me, i've been meaning to copyright what is now Vanilla Coke - a drink that is easily created by mixing equal portions of Coke "classic" and cream soda... as /. says, "it's funny. laugh.")

As for his comment that the recording industry's income decreased in the last few years: it happens, dork! Look at the Silicon Valley! Do you think it's easy to find a job nowadays?? And here I thought it wasn't easy to get money without a job or resorting to stealing...

    P.S. sorry about a rant :P

This may be too strong a statement... Just because someone from Intel showed up, doesn't mean that Intel is opposed to that. Maybe Intel told that employee to visit that meeting and bring them the scoop to improve their rebuttal..? Then again, maybe they're considering joining in...
In either case, it makes no sense to make such guesses just yet.

Well, it seems that AOL has finally realized that it's losing too many of its "customers" to other AIM network clients like Trillian, Miranda, GAIM, et.al., which already have encryption capabilities and are ACTUALLY FREE - no ads, and often even open source.
As for those of you who don't care about encrypting your IMs... just leave the option turned off XD
I guess you just don't care that your dorm-mates can effortlessly read every word you say to .

well, if you think about it, there are 40 * 25 ms in a 1 s, so you should should be able to get 40 Hz assuming that the 25 ms includes both of the "powerup" and "powerdown" times (sorry, don't know the correct terms of when the pixel becomes lit and becomes dark). 22 ms of this monitor translates to roughly ~45.5 Hz, so the 75 Hz must have come from some other source... i would think it is "comparable to 75Hz on a CRT", hence my original message

  9. Re:sw33t on Samsung LTM295W 29" LCD Review · · Score: 1

I agree with the "more fingers" remark - since the frequency of the monitor is higher than that of an old 13"-er, you'll see many more "shadows" of your hand as you wave it in front of the screen. As for the PPT presentations... why waste money on this monitor if you can buy a decent projector for half (if not third) of the price?

  10. sw33t on Samsung LTM295W 29" LCD Review · · Score: 0, Flamebait

very nice specs, but 75 Hz probably won't cut it for many computer users that may want a monitor as big as this (gamers, graphics designers, and IRC junkies XD). My eyes start hurting with any frequency below 85Hz, and I've met some people who can barely tolerate 100Hz.
